Kaindy translates to "birch" in Kazakh language, due to the large birch grove which once grew from the gorge which eventually become flooded with water following the 1911 earthquake, forming a picturesque lake at the stunning elevation of 2,000 metres above sea level. The lake is 400 metres long and stretches 30 metres deep.

Please note that as the area is near to the border with Kyrgyzstan, you are required to bring your original passport as there may be occasional police checks.
