Altyn Emel National Park
Four times the size of Hong Kong, Altyn Emel National Park encompasses almost 4,600 square kilometres of sprawling desert, towering mountains and rocky terrain to the northeast of Lake Kapshagay.
The perfect destination for the adventurous traveller, Altyn Emel National Park is an area of astounding landscapes that demands off-road exploration. The singing Barch Dune is Altyn Emel's most impressive and well-known sight, standing at an imposing 120 metres high and 1.5 kilometres long. When the winds blow across this dune, those nearby can enjoy the sounds of a natural pipe organ right in the heart of the desert. Another highlight not to be missed are the Aktau-Katytau mountains, brilliantly captivating with splashes of red and white as a result of multiple volcano eruptions over a thousand years ago.
