Saijo Sake Town Tour
Enjoy a sake-themed tour of Saijo, on this day trip, around 35-minutes from Hiroshima. Sake has been brewed in this attractive town since the 17th century, with most of the breweries located on Sakagura-dori, Sake Brewery Street, along the waterfront. Over the course of the 3-hour tour, you will visit 4-6 of the local breweries, starting at Kamotsuru, where you will learn about the brewing process of this rice wine, along with the history of sake production in Saijo. At each brewery you will have the chance to taste and purchase the sake, learning to identify the subtle differences between the different varieties. While the process for making this rice wine is similar, the difference in taste comes from differences in the shikomi mizu water used for production. Lunch is included and includes the opportunity to try bishu nabe, a hotpot dish unique to Saijo, made with premium sake in the broth. There is also the chance to stroll through the town’s attractive streets, visit a local café and shop for tasty sweets and snacks.
The total tour time is 4-hours, plus travel to and from Hiroshima, with a minimum age of 20 years. While the tour includes learning about the sake production process, it is not possible to see this in action, as these areas of the breweries are off limits to the public.
