The Sabean International Hotel is located perfectly for a visit to Ethiopia's oldest and holiest city. A great base with a modern feel, ideal from which to spend a couple of days exploring the archaeology and history of the Axum area.
Very central hotel in Axum
Newly finished and modern feel
A base to see the archaeological sites and stele in Axum
Visit the Mariam Tsion Church which was said to house the Arc of the Covenant
The Sabean International Hotel is located on the main road in the tiny town of Axum, a good location from which to see the archaeological sites here such as the ancient stele and witness parishioners dressed in white. Axum is the oldest and holiest town in Ethiopia and once home to the ancient Axemite people, thought to be akin to the Romans, Greeks and Egyptians. It is a fascinating town which boasts ruins, Axumite villas, churches, the Ark of the Covenant and a meeting point between trade from east Africa and the Mediterranean sea.
The hotel itself, is the best place to stay in Axum, but unfortunately it doesn't have a view. There are over 40 rooms at the hotel and four suites, we would recommend avoiding the floor where reception is located as the television is based there.
However, with so much to see on your doorstep in the one or two nights we recommend, time spent here will be minimal. This hotel is new, clean and the Ethiopian take on being modern.
