Mountain Picnics at Zighy Bay
18 October 2011
Oman has not traditionally been considered a gourmet destination – that is until now with the introduction of the new un-missable mouthwatering dining experiences launched at Six Senses Zighy Bay.
First, there is the stunning Sabatyn Mountain Breakfast that takes place high in the nearby Hajar mountains at sunrise.
Rising at dawn, guests are driven to a plateau 1,200 meters above sea level by 4×4, to find a romantic picnic breakfast laid out. Dine on delicately flavoured local pastries, fresh fruit and champagne whilst taking in the phenomenal views – an exhilarating morning wake up call!
Also new at the Six Senses Zighy Bay is the Middle Eastern Shua Shack – serving tasty traditional Omani cuisine.
Here, guests are invited to relax Bedouin style, on an array of colourful cushions under a shady gazebo with a vast selection of Arabian hot and cold mezze dishes.
These include Jebneh Rokak, deep fried Akawi cheese with Omani spice wrapped in filo pastry and Sambousek Lahm – seasoned lamb and pine seeds in a tender crust.
These are followed by the presentation of a whole lamb, which has been roasted in the shua or pit oven under the sand for 24 hours. The lamb, marinated in local spices and cut into succulent slices is absolutely delicious and is served with locally inspired side plates. The meal is completed with freshly made Aish Al Saraya – toasted caramel drizzled breads with rose water and ashta cream.
In addition to the Shua Shack and the Mountain Breakfast, the resort’s Arabic signature restaurant serves organic and locally sourced ingredients. ‘Dining on the Edge’, sits in an extraordinary position at 293m above sea level overlooking the Hajar mountains and is the exquisite fine dining option.
Guests can also take advantage of private chefs and personal waiters when dining privately in-villa, or sit on top of the Wine Tower under the stars and overlooking the entire resort. The Wine Tower stocks over 300 labels and Chill, the Bar serves over 40 different vodkas.
Located in the remote northern Musandam Peninsula in Oman, the Six Senses Zighy Bay sits amidst spectacular landscape, with the sheer Hajar Mountains on one side and 1.6k white sandy beach on the other.
As well as the holistic Six Senses Spa with two Arabian Hammams and yoga pavilion with panoramic views of The Gulf of Oman, guests can take part in diving at the recently launched dive centre, non motorised water sports, fly in the new micro light aircraft and venture out of the resort on an array of fascinating excursions to nearby traditional Omani villages. Guests can also paraglide into the resort on arrival – now that is how to arrive in style!
All Scott Dunn guests travelling to the Six Senses Zighy Bay can include a fantastic dining experience package as part of their stay – which includes the Sabatyn Mountain Breakfast, Shua Shack, Dining on the Edge as well as in-villa private dining.
