What's hot for 2020

At the dawn of not only a new year but a new decade, we're looking ahead to what's next in travel. So, to help inspire your next holiday, we've scoured the globe for exclusive, interactive experiences, exciting, under the radar destinations & new ways to contribute to conservation efforts. Here are our travel trends for 2020...

Scott Dunn has seen an increase in the demand for more adventurous travel experiences. With this in mind, we've added to our portfolio of boats sailing to the Polar Regions, choosing luxurious ships which have minimal impact on this fragile ecosystem and offer intrepid travellers expert insight into increasingly important conservation efforts. Antarctica is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences; the sheer magnitude of the scenery and the chance to see penguins, seals, whales and seabirds in their natural habitat will stay with you forever.

Launching in 2020, Scott Dunn will offer new off grid tailor-made tours to Mongolia, one of the world’s last true frontiers. This exciting new destination is perfect for those seeking remote adventures and eye-opening cultural experiences, set to a stunning backdrop. Culture vultures should visit over the Naadam Festival which is the most important festival for Mongolians, when locals compete in archery, wrestling and horse riding. More intrepid travellers can venture to Karakorum to stay in a temporary nomadic ger camp set up on a mountainside overlooking the Orkhon Valley which is a sight to behold!

There’s lots to reasons to recommend Chile but in December 2020, Chile will be the location to witness one of the world’s most magnificent spectacles – the Geminids on 13th and 14th December, arguably the best meteor showers in the skies and a total solar eclipse takes place on 14th December 2020. The dark skies of Patagonia will be the ideal location to witness the Geminids, putting on a show of as many as 120 shooting stars per hour. Combine this with the mysterious Easter Island where you can gawp at the gigantic Moai stone statues which dot this remote volcanic island before flying to Peru to see the magnificent ruins of Machu Picchu where you can learn about the Incas.

Val d’Isere

Due to its high altitude, Val d’Isere is a great choice for early season skiing, with good snowfall from December onwards and has a superb range of luxury hotels to stay with the added benefit of a Scott Dunn Guest Relations Manager, ensuring your holiday is not just great but exceptional. To add extra ease to your trip our purpose-built Explorers Kids Club, catering for children from four months to 11 years, is located in the heart of the town and available exclusively for Scott Dunn guests. Our kids club offers flexible childcare which fits around ski school with exciting activities to get the children out and about having fun in the snow.

The Spice Islands, Indonesia

With thousands of volcanic islands, Indonesia has many hidden gems. Maluku, also known as the Spice Islands, is a little-visited tropical paradise which is just waiting to be explored. Do so in comfort on board Aqua Blu, a modern super yacht with skilled chefs and a sun deck with 360 degree views. This striking archipelago has everything you would want from an island escape; impressive national parks blanketed in lush jungle, unspoilt beaches fringed by crystalline waters and a rich indigenous culture. But the best part is that it is away from the crowds!

Remote Greek Islands

When most people think of the Greek islands, many conjure up an image of Santorini or Crete but Scott Dunn is seeing an increase in enquiries for remote, harder to reach destinations in Greece such as Sifnos, Milos, Naxos and Paros – islands which which feel more authentic. We’re very proud of our Authentic Greece itinerary which allows you to get off the beaten track and discover a more real side to Greece, getting under the skin of local customs, visiting secluded islands and exploring traditional villages.

October through to December is a great time to visit Mauritius, making it a good option for October Half Term or the Christmas holidays. Shanti Maurice is a truly magical resort set on the south coast with lush tropical gardens and a stunning white sandy beach which can be viewed from all the suites and villas. The culinary experience here is an unforgettable mix of local and international cuisine. It is also home to our Explorers Kids Club, set in 2000 square metres of grounds within the resort, offering a fantastic Mauritian experience to our younger guests, from four months to 11 years. Whilst the adults are relaxing, the children are guaranteed a fantastic time.

Less than four hours flight from the UK, Morocco is our top choice for a little sunshine during October half term without a long flight and perfect for those looking to combine a little culture, adventure and relaxation. Our Morocco for families itinerary is great for first time visitors and returners alike combining vibrant Marrakech with the stunning Atlas Mountains before ending in the quiet coastal town of Essaouira where water sports are on offer for those who wish to be active.

Botswana is renowned for having some of the best wildlife areas in Africa and is one of the best places to see species such as the magnificent Kalahari black maned lion, for wildlife enthusiasts this alone should put this destination at the top of their 2020 wish list. However, there's more - lots of exciting new hotels are opening this year in Botswana, which are perfect for those who want to go on a luxurious safari. We are especially excited about Xigera Safari Lodge which is set to be Africa’s most exclusive lodge.

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is always a delight. Jet off to a luxury hotel in the UAE and bask in the sun, choosing to stay in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Chase away the winter chills by visiting world-famous attractions such as Abu Dhabi's Ferrari World or Dubai's vast malls. Take a break from the city and head out into the desert for a romantic night under the stars, a camel safari or dune surfing.
