Hvar

A Croatian island located off the Dalmatian coast, Hvar is one of the most popular destinations in the Adriatic. The greenest of the Croatian islands, Hvar offers beautifully clear waters, secluded coves, small fishing villages and local vineyards.

Hvar

As the island that is the sunniest spot in Croatia, and also lays claim to the oldest town in the country, Hvar has a lot to offer. From the fields of lavender and quiet coastal villages to the busy and cosmopolitan Hvar town, this idyllic island has something for everyone. The main town of Hvar is a popular choice, and the streets are always bustling with both locals and visitors. The trendy marina contrasts with the 13th century walls that surround the town, and the Spanjola Fortress that overlooks it, but the blend of old and new creates a fantastic atmosphere. For foodies, some of the best meals are found in Hvar's tiny streets, where authentic Dalmatian dishes really come to life. Local wines are also produced nearby, and the island's reputation as one of the best wine producing regions in Croatia means a tasting should not be missed!

For those looking for a quieter visit, a stay in Stari Grad is a must. Stari Grad translates to ‘old town’ in English, and the name couldn’t be more appropriate – this is the oldest town in Croatia. Relaxed and cultured, Stari Grad is full of stone buildings in narrow, winding streets, which are a delight to explore. For a leisurely swim, the sparkling blue waters around Hvar are some of the best in the Adriatic, and wherever you go on the island there are hidden bays and beaches to discover.

"Stari Grad is Hvar’s smaller and quieter town, instead of heading to the hustle and bustle of Hvar town, Stari Grad is much less well known but still just as beautiful with cobbled streets. Be sure to head to Antika Restaurant and Wine Bar in Stari Grad for some fantastic fresh sea food and sample their delicious Croatian Wines. Head to 'Nook' for a digestif in their secret walled Garden. On a separate occasion, be sure to try a traditional Croatian Lamb Peka, a dish slow roasted on open coal fires available throughout Croatia."
