Average time to visit

Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.

An exploration of the different Indonesian islands courtesy of the exclusive Aman Hotel Group. Visit Bali, Moyo and Java and experience the luxury and impeccable service of the Aman Hotels whilst exploring the stunning, diverse landscapes and rich culture of Indonesia.

  1. Days 1-4: Borobodur

After arriving in Java, a volcanic and rugged island with rural local villages and amazing trekking opportunities you will transfer to the city of Magelang, famous for the neighbouring 8th century Buddhist sanctuary of Borobudur and the ancient Hindu complex, Prambanan, containing hundreds of temples strewn across the plains. During your stay in the sensational Amanjiwo we have included a sunrise tour of Borobudur. Explore this ancient temple complex at the most tranquil time of day when the sun rises over this impressive site. Marvel at the largest single Buddhist monument in the world before exploring a nearby village by horse-drawn buggy.

The following day you will visit the Hindu complex of Prambanan, a collection of 9th century temples awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 1991 and the largest Hindu temple complex in the country.  In the evenings, retreat to the exclusive Amanjiwo which offers spectacular views of Borobudur and enjoy the comforts of this luxury hotel.

    Accommodation: Amanjiwo (3 nights)

  2. Days 4-7: Ubud

Next stop is Bali for a few nights at the beautiful Amandari, set in the stunning jungle-clad valleys of central Bali. The Ayung River snakes through the valley below and your arrival is heralded by the many tropical birds that flit through the palms overhead. Explore the quaint and quirky town of Ubud, with its markets, temples, cafes and galleries, before retiring to Amandari and its sumptuous surroundings. We have included a tour of Ubud’s central highlands as part of this itinerary. Visit the iconic water temple of Ulan Danu and soak in its healing waters before exploring a local market and be mesmerised by the sights, smells and sounds of local Bali. Later in the morning you will explore the northerly coast of Bali and enjoy a local lunch overlooking the sea.

    Accommodation: Amandari (3 nights)

  3. Days 7-11: Remote Indonesian islands

Following a 3 night stay in Ubud, board a charter sea plane to Moyo Island, a tiny jewel set amidst turquoise waters. Here you will find the exclusive tented camp of Amanwana, a collection of luxury tents surrounded by tropical forest and the Flores Sea, ringed with coral reef. Spend your days cruising on the luxury boats exploring deserted beaches, experience some of the best diving in the Indonesian Archipelago, or explore the hills of the island which are home to a variety of animal life, from deer and macaque monkeys to wild boar.

    Accommodation: Amanwana (4 nights)

  4. Days 11-15: Manggis

Back to mainland Bali and stay at Amankila on the tranquil east coast of the island. Traditional life can still be found in this scenic, peaceful area and the scenery is stunning, with Mount Agung rising in the background. Visit local markets at dawn to choose ingredients for your cooking class and stop off at the Hindu temples on your way back to Amankila. The views from the three-tiered pool at Amankila are second to none, with panoramic views out over the bustling Lombok Straits.

    Accommodation: Amankila (4 nights)
