Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
Located within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Tau Pan Camp has fantastic views of the plains, all the way to Tau Pan - perfect for summer game viewing. Walking with the bushmen is a real highlight here.
Tau Pan was the first safari camp to be built in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and occupies a superb position raised up on an ancient sand dune, overlooking the vastness of the pan. There is a waterhole nearby, attracting wildlife year-round. This area is unique in its landscape and stark in its beauty, and offers a superb contrast to a safari elsewhere in Botswana. The camp runs fully from solar power, which generates electricity, pumps water from deep beneath the Kalahari sands and heating water for showers.
The camp consists of nine chalets connected by sandy paths. Tau Pan rooms offer double or twin beds, an indoor sitting area and a writing desk. Perfectly designed for the changing weather, the rooms have very thick walls for hot summers and cold winters.
Activities here are diverse, with nature drives around Tau Pan or visits further afield to Passarge, Piper and Sunday pans or Deception Valley. Star gazing is phenomenal here, with no light pollution as far as the eye can see. A real highlight is the nature walks with the Bushmen, an ancient people who have lived off the land in the Kalahari for centuries. Learn how they find water and food in this barren landscape, make fire and track wildlife.
Viewing wildlife from a vehicle is the best way to get up close to big game. Allow your professional safari guide to cover ground to guarantee you some unforgettable sightings in Africa's premier safari destination.
Walking in the African bush with a professional safari guide is a fantastic experience. Enjoy a completely different perspective on foot than from a vehicle.
Tau Pan is located in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in the south of Botswana.
