Hong Kong Office
Irish by birth, I first came to Asia on a three month backpacking trip in 2008. Eleven years later and I’m still here! It’s fair to say that I have completely fallen in love with the region and its fascinating mix of cultures, stunning scenery, bustling megacities and tantalising culinary experiences.
I spent time living in South Korea and China before making Hong Kong my home. I was lucky enough to have travelled to every country in the region and some highlights are: biking around the thousands of temples in magical Bagan, Myanmar; spotting majestic blue whales in gorgeous Sri Lanka; and sharing tea with a Buddhist moFank in a temple in the surprisingly lovely Nagasaki, Japan. I look forward to revisiting some of these countries to explore some of the more off the beaten track destinations including the relatively unexplored Mergui Archipelago in Myanmar and the Shikoku region of Japan.
Favourite places I've been
When visiting the must see Senso-Ji temple in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, go in the early evening when the crowds have died down and the temple is at its most atmospheric.
In the most popular cities in Italy such as Rome and Florence, take a walk from the main tourist attractions and spend the day in the more local areas and side streets as this is often where you’ll find the best quality and best value restaurants.
Here’s a secret for you, not all of Thailand has been destroyed by mass tourism! The island of Koh Lanta in the Andaman Sea is a peaceful location boasting stunning, nearly deserted beaches, magnificent views and friendly locals.
