Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The main tourist season is between June and August, when the weather is the warmest. Standout seasons to visit St Petersburg are late spring (May or June) and early autumn (September or October), when the city’s parks are filled with flowering trees or colourful leaves.

The deepest, darkest part of winter is undeniably cold but if you are prepared it can be an adventure. Furs and vodka keep people warm and snow-covered landscapes are picturesque. A solid snow pack covers the ground from November to March. The city gets fired up to ring in the New Year, when Muscovites emerge from their warm homes into the winter night for free concerts and fireworks.

The Four Seasons Lion Palace is one of Saint Petersburg's most extravagant hotels. Located in the heart of the city, a stone's throw from the Hermitage Museum, a short walk from the buzzing Nevsky Prospekt and a stroll from the famed Mariinsky Theatre.

The Four Seasons Lion Palace has raised the bar for five star hotel accommodation in Saint Petersburg since its much anticipated grand opening. The impressive entrance decorated with neoclassical columns and guarded by two renaissance marble sculpted lions appropriately sets the tone for the interior of the hotel.

The rooms are of the high standard and elegant, contemporary classic décor that you would expect from a Four Seasons hotel. They all have large windows so are light, airy and spacious and all have beautiful full marble bathrooms. Views range from the peaceful inner courtyard to the stunning St Isaac's Cathedral, the Admiralty building and other landmarks of Saint Petersburg.

There are three restaurants to choose from, each serving very different but equally delicious cuisine. The Tea Lounge, housed in a glass-roofed hall, is where the incredible breakfast is served, as well as lunch, afternoon tea and light suppers - all have an International and Russian focus. Sintoho is the Japanese and northern Asia restaurant. The décor is very stylish and the food is delicious, especially the sushi. Percorso is the Italian restaurant and is spread through four distinctly decorated rooms - the bar, the lounge and two dining rooms and there is an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs at work. It has a fun and lively atmosphere and attracts a trendy crowd.

The Luceo Spa is beautifully designed over four levels and offers the best massage therapies and beauty treatments - the perfect way to relax after a busy day in the city. There is also an extensive gym kitted out with the most up to date Technogym equipment.
