The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.
February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian holiday week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.
Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.
Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.
The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.

Baros prides itself on being motor free, so you wont hear any motorised water sports or golf buggies zipping about. Its 45 years old, so is definitely one of the more established resorts in the Maldives with the added benefit of having beautiful, mature vegetation.
The island is perfect for couples and families with older children (children over the age of 9 years are allowed), however, as there isnt a kids club - it is definitely one for families with older, self-sufficient children.
The house reef and resident marine biologist means that snorkelling is really interesting. I took a paddle board out one morning and virtually circumnavigated the island, seeing the colourful fish from on the water rather than in it.
Acclaimed as one of the best restaurants in the Maldives, The Lighthouse is also a beautiful spot for a drink on its deck while watching the sun set on another fantastic day. One of my favourite meals was the BBQ set under the trees at Sail Bar; you choose your cut of meat or piece of fish for the chefs to cook in front of you while you peruse the vast choice of salads to accompany it. The dessert table is pretty impressive too if you have room (theres always room!)

Located in the North Male Atoll, Baros is a short private boat ride away from Male Airport making it extremely accessible. It is such a beautiful little island, it used to be a coconut plantation, which gives it that real tropical island feel. The rooms are very comfortable andcontemporary and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. They also have a fantastic house reef which was voted the healthiest in the North Male Atoll.

Baros is truly romantic island, perfect for couples. Just a 20 minute speedboat ride away from Male and you arrive onto a small paradise island with white sands and crystal clear waters. Hosting one of the healthiest house reefs in the Maldives, be sure to take a snorkel and you may even be lucky enough to spot one of the 17 resident turtles. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming and will always go the extra mile to ensure you have the most perfect holiday.

Baros is a truly beautiful resort, offering great value for money. It is ideal for couples and is very romantic. Taking just 10-15 minutes to walk the whole island it is very private and picturesque. Before dinner be sure to enjoy a cocktail at the Lighthouse bar and watch the sea life below in a tranquil setting.

Baros is an enchanting island and is the perfect place for couples of all ages with a quiet, peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. Here you can experience some of the best snorkelling in the house reef. I would highly recommend going out into the reef on a snorkelling safari with a member of the dive centre. You will feel comfortable exploring the reef, and can ask about the varieties of coral, fish, sharks and turtles you may see!
Although the island itself is fairly small, there are three fantastic restaurants to choose from. If that is not choice enough, then why not make your time at Baros unforgettable and take a special picnic lunch or private BBQ dinner on a remote sandbank, just a few minutes boat ride away. This will be an extremely memorable and enjoyable experience.
Being the 3rd oldest resort in the Maldives, the approximate 40 years experience means they are well established in the high levels of service. The island is also very lush and green, making the beach villas very private. With seven room categories to choose from there is something to suit all.

When I arrived at Baros it struck me how beautiful and lush the vegetation is here, much greenery surrounds you with lots of little pathways leading off in different directions , the dense foliage means that you can easily find a private spot set back on the sand along the beach.
This island is the perfect place for couples, I found there to be all ages here ranging from young honeymooners to people in their seventies, It's a beautiful place to spend quality time together whatever your age and being a property aimed at adults (older children are accepted) it's quiet and peaceful.
There are just 75 rooms on the island and there's a choice of being over the water or on the beach whichever option you choose you will not be disappointed they are all stunning!
With three restaurants you have a good variety and can be sure of an intimate dining experience wherever you choose to dine of an evening with tables nestled amongst the trees and lit by torch light it has a very romantic feel of an evening. For a really special night you can be taken out across the water by boat and enjoy a private candlelit dinner on the sandbank a completely amazing experience and something you will remember forever!
The snorkelling is some of the best I've experienced in the Maldives the house reef is fantastic with a huge array of numerous colourful fish, shark and if you're lucky hawksbill turtle, the curious bat fish can also be found here too and when you tire of the reef there's a couple of boat wrecks you can snorkel too. For those slightly nervous of snorkelling out with the sharks as I was a little if I'm honest! I really recommend a trip out with one of the marine biologists who will talk you through what you are seeing the best place to enter the reef, the tides etc this really made the reef all the more amazing for me and I felt much more comfortable going out alone after that.

I did not realise quite how quickly you can arrive on an island of paradise. Step off the plane, onto Baros' private boat, and within 20 minutes you arrive in crystal clear waters, greeted by the friendly team at the hotel.

As one of the Maldives' original resorts, the small island of Baros offers a wealth of experience, as well as a good selection of things to do. Sandbank dining, a five star PADI centre, and the most delicious food at the Lighthouse restaurant all combine to make it a high-end resort, while still being a lot more affordable than a lot of properties in the Maldives.

Baros was a great recommendation given our situation, and we are very thankful that we chose it. Fantastic on all fronts. Well done, Emma. [The services Baros provided] even better than expected from a first-class resort. [The]Baros staff were excellent from when we arrived. The journey was quick and efficient, quite refreshing, even. A great start to the holiday.

A few years ago the Maldives suddenly started to get more expensive, rivalling the Seychelles in the cost department. As a result we were on the look out for a more affordable option, while still maintaining the Scott Dunn standards we associate ourselves with. Baros hit the spot. A small island with modern beach and water villas, this is the perfect resort for those who like the idea of Huvafen Fushi but don’t want to spend quite so much. What you compromise on is space, size the staff to guest ratio and fact there is no main pool on the island. What you do not compromise on is quality and service. They also have a fabulous house reef.
