The Victoria Chau Doc is a French colonial hotel very close to the Cambodian border and its unique location allows guests to discover life deep inside the Mekong Delta. It is a fascinating farewell to Vietnam, before continuing by river into Cambodia.
The Victoria Chau Doc is located right on the banks of the Bassac River at the Three River Crossing and is the perfect place to sit back and watch the bustling life of the river. The proximity to Cambodia means there is an eclectic mix here of Khmer, Cham, Chinese and Vietnamese cultures and a unique historical richness.
The hotel has a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere and is imbued with old world charm. The rooms are simple and cosy with modern comforts, and many have fantastic balcony views of the river. With delicious food available from the waterside restaurant and wonderful facilities including a swimming pool, spa and gym, your time in Chau Doc can be focussed around pure relaxation or you can chose to explore this region by boat, bicycle or motorbike before continuing on to the new adventures Cambodia offers.
From the Victoria Chau Doc, guests can catch the fast boat to and from the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, making it the perfect stop off point on any Mekong Delta trip.
The Victoria Chau Doc has 88 Superior and Deluxe Rooms and two Suites. The Deluxe Rooms and Suites have balconies with breathtaking views of the Bassac River and are highly recommended.
Children are made very welcome at the Victoria Chau Doc but there are no specific facilities for them except for babysitting, which can be arranged of request. Children will love the bustle of life on the river and will find passing through Chau Doc en route to Cambodia a real adventure (as will adults!)
The Victoria Chau Doc has a picturesque, riverside Bassac Restaurant and bar where specialities include Vietnamese and European cuisine as well as memorable barbecues on the riverbank. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool with panoramic views, fitness centre, simple spa, pool table and table tennis.
Activities while staying at the Victoria Chau Doc abound and include Tai Chi lessons, martial art exercise classes, cooking classes in a local village, other village and market excursions and motorbike and bicycle hire for independent exploration.

Situated three hours from its sister property in Can Tho and close to the Cambodia border, the Victoria is the only luxury property for those looking to get from the Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh by boat. I found the hotel very quiet and not particularly sophisticated but it does have a certain quaint sort of charm and is leagues above other hotels in Chau Doc.
Cu Chi Tunnels
The tunnels of Cu Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Cu Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City. They once supported the Viet Cong, the communist forces in Vietnam and are well worth exploring today.
Floating Market and City Tour at Can Tho
Combine a trip to one of Asia's largest floating markets with sightseeing around the town of Can Tho.
Foodie Walking Tour of Saigon
This morning tour explores Saigon's fragrant street food on foot with a local expert. Explore markets, try authentic Banh Mi, enjoy Vietnamese ice tea and sit down to lunch at a local canteen.
Travel like a local
Travel along the Chau Doc River in a small motorboat providing the chance to observe the local way of life on the river's edge alongside a visit to a Muslim Cham village.
