Yong Kang Tan

I've always been drawn to the more 'off the beaten track' destinations, in particular Africa. It's a destination unlike any other which keeps me coming back for more. Without a doubt one of the most incredible sights I have witnessed was the migration herds of the Serengeti.

Growing up & living in a crowded and bustling city, it is always a joy for me to be out in raw wilderness far from civilisation. It does not help too that African safari properties are adept in indulging their guests with intimate service and gorgeous accommodation!

Over the last few years, it has been a real privilege and treat to have witnessed the massive migration herds and be startled by a pouncing lion in the Serengeti, admire the Big Five in South Africa as well as soaked up the casual vibe of Cape Town and the winelands.

What my guests have said

Yong Kang is an excellent - very proactive, totally open to customized itineraries, nothing is ever an issue no matter how many times it changes, always polite and considerate, always on time with information and details.

Yong Kang has once again outdone himself and did an excellent job in offering us different aspects of what South Africa has to offer. We saw the big 5, the ocean, Cape Town, Cape Point, Marine big 5, nature and finishing in the wine country.

Travel nuggets

  • Africa is a vast continent with many wonderful experiences unique to each destination. Take your time to discover each country and return again to Africa for something different each time.

  • Enjoy the moment. It is often too easy to get carried away snapping photographs that one forgets to appreciate the wonderful scenery before them or behold the marvel of being up close with wildlife.

  • It is always worthwhile indulging on an African safari holiday, you can't beat Singita properties.

My hot picks

Chem Chem, Tarangire National Park, Northern Tanzania

A top notch safari lodge from where one can seek out the huge elephant herds in the baobab tree studded Tarangire National Park as well as participate in local Maasai interactions to break up the rhythm of safari activities.

Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, Gansbaai, South Africa

A wonderful destination to unwind and be indulged with great food & wine and excellent service, plus the opportunity to discover the unique fynbos floral kingdom and (in season) head out on whale watching cruises.

&Beyond Phinda Rock Lodge, Phinda Private Game Reserve, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

An intimate and gorgeous accommodation offering lovely views, the sumptuous suites are a great base to explore Phinda, one of the few reserves in South Africa with a high chance of finding the cheetah alongside the Big Five.
