Ecuador & the Galapagos can be visited year round. The higher the altitude in the Andes, the cooler it becomes, especially at night. June to September is the best time to enjoy the Andes as this is the drier season. From January to June it is typically hot in the Galapagos and sees sunny days and blue skies interspersed with showers, while the rest of the year is generally cloudier and cooler. From July to September the seas can be heavier and boats tend to go into dry dock for their annual refurbishment around this time. The average temperature ranges from a pleasant 20°C to 28°C, however being on the equator the sun is very strong. Due to limited permits in the Galapagos we advise to book well in advance.
Experience a once in a lifetime cruise around the enchanting Galapagos Islands and observe wonderful and unique wildlife and breathtaking volcanic scenery whilst staying on board the Sea Star Journey a luxurious expedition vessel which affords excellent value. Combine your trip with Quito, Ecuador's colonial capital and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Begin your journey in the beautiful city of Quito perched high in the Andes, surrounded by stunning volcanic peaks. Take a relaxing stroll through the tree-lined avenues and cobblestone streets of the old town, home to ornate churches, colourful market stalls and picturesque pastel-coloured houses. A half-day, privately guided city tour has been included to help you get under the skin of the city.
Fly on to the Galapagos archipelago where you will spend six days exploring these incredible islands. The beautiful beaches, lagoons and dry forests form a unique habitat that harbours some of the world’s most fascinating creatures. Swim with sea lions, float eye-to-eye with a penguin, see blue-footed boobies feeding their young, catch glimpses of dolphins, watch giant tortoises lumbering through cactus forests and try to dodge iguanas scurrying over lava flows. The wildlife is truly phenomenal. On board your luxury expedition vessel there are expert naturalist guides who will give fascinating lectures on the natural history of the archipelago and lead the daily visits to the islands.
From your comfortable base on board, you will be able to explore the Galapagos' best sites. There are many opportunities to hike, swim, snorkel, kayak, bird-watch and take great close-up photographs of the unique flora and fauna. Whatever wildlife you will encounter, the Galapagos Islands will surpass all expectations.
