Rwanda can be visited at any time of year. There are two annual rainy seasons: the big rains which last from mid-February to the beginning of June, and the small rains from mid-September to mid-December. Rainfall, especially over the mountains, is heavy during these two periods, particularly from March to May. The long dry season, June to September, is the best time for tracking gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park and for hiking in Nyungwe Forest Reserve.
Nyungwe House is the newest luxury lodge within the One & Only portfolio bringing five star luxury to the Nyungwe Forest Reserve. Nyungwe Rainforest is home to 13 species of primate including Chimpanzees.
Nyungwe House is situated on the edge of the Nyungwe National Park and stunningly set in the grounds of a tea-plantation. The Lodge boasts impressive views overlooking the rainforest canopy and the rugged Rwandan mountains. The major attraction in this area is of course the chimpanzees and other primates which call the Nyungwe Forest National Park home.
Activities are tailored to the individual and guided walks can last anything from 1 to 7 hours. The most popular walking excursions available include chimpanzee trekking, black and white colobus monkey trekking, grey–cheeked mangabey trekking, the Kamiranzovu Swamps and Waterfall walks, Bird watching and cultural walks.
Nyungwe Hosue consists of 24 luxury rooms all with views of the lush green forest canopy. All of the rooms feature private decks to make the most of the views, a fireplace to ward off the cool evenings, en-suite bathroom with indoor shower and deep baths, air conditioning, electronic safe, flatscreen TV, hairdryer and mini bar.
The lodge also has an outdoor-heated swimming pool with fantastic views of the forest, a relaxation retreat with two treatment rooms providing various massages and spa-treatments and a fitness centre. There is also a boma in the main lodge, enjoy alfresco drinks or dining with breath-taking panoramic views.
All rooms and suites are forest facing. Accommodation at Nyungwe comprises of 15 x King bedded luxury rooms sleeping a max of 2 adults each, 7 x Twin bedded luxury rooms sleeping a max of 2 adults each and 2 x King bedded suites (Both connect with a second twin bedded luxury room). All rooms have wood burning stoves as well as air conditioning.
Children are welcome, with the suites specially designed for families. However, it is important to note that children under the age of 15 are not permitted to visit the chimpanzees.

Within the main lodge there is a boma area for outdoor dining and drinks, a tea lounge and bar, as well as a restaurant including a private room with private terrace. There is also a spa, heated outdoor infinity edged pool with view across the forest, a fitness centre and bicycles to ride around the tea plantation.

Visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum should be on everybody's must-do list when in the area. The memorial is a haunting but stark journey through one of the most savage genocides in history, that took place in this tiny, landlocked country.
