Average time to visit
Late autumn (September to November) and early spring (February to April) are the best time to visit, with daytime temperatures in the 20's and low 30's Celsius. You can also go in midwinter (December to January) if you don't mind the chilly nights (typically 5-10 Celsius). Midsummer (June to August) is best avoided, as blistering temperatures climb to the high 30's.

Description
Located in the desert just outside Marrakech, Inara Tented Camp, also know as Agafay Tented Camp, offers a secluded retreat for a desert camp experience, where you can try a camel or buggy ride and sleep in a berber tent under the starry sky.
Tucked away between the bustling streets of Marrakech and the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains, the Agafay Desert offers a taste of the Moroccan desert experience without the long days of driving that the Sahara requires. Just one hour from Marrakech, here you'll have the chance to escape the busy city and learn about the Berbers' nomadic way of life.
The accommodation at Inara Tented Camp is in private caidal tents, typically Moroccan in style, offering the classic desert experience but with added modern amenities. The tents are welcoming and comfortable, with king-sized or twin beds, a sitting area and an en-suite bathroom featuring a small shower, with both hot and cold running water, and a flushing toilet.
At night the ambience of the desert comes alive as you relax to the sounds of traditional Berber musicians and enjoy the endless starry sky and peace of your desert surrounds.
One of the highlights of Agafay must be the staff, comprising of 2 different families who have travelled from their native desert south they create a welcoming family atmosphere with incredible levels of hospitality making it very hard to leave!
The rolling rocky landscapes may not have the golden sands of the Sahara but the remote location and mountain background still offers a very special ambience making this a great addition to a stay in vibrant Marrakech. This is also the perfect place to bring out your adventurous side with a wide range of thrilling activities available including quad bikes, camel treks and dune buggies.
Accommodation
Inara Tented Camp features 10 typically Moroccan Caidal tents which measure roughly 30 square metres (100 square foot), with a king-size or twin beds, seating area and en-suite bathroom area. The bathrooms provide hot and cold water in the basic, but functional, shower and washbasin, as well as a flushing toilet.
Emotion Tent | The 7 Emotion tents are set with panoramic views over the surrounding rocky desert. The spacious tents feature a small seating area with plenty of space for baggage storage and have a connecting bathroom separated by a canvas door. |
Childcare
Children are welcome at the Inara Tented Camp, however there are no specific childcare facilities. Some tents can accommodate an extra bed.
Services
Please be aware that due to the remote location there is limited phone signal and no wi-fi at the camp- the perfect excuse to switch off and enjoy your surroundings.
Facilities
At Inara Tented Camp meals are taken in separate dining tents, where traditional Moroccan dishes are served. Enjoy delicious recipes such as tagine and harira followed by an array of mouth-watering Moroccan pastries.
Activities
There is a variety of exciting activities on offer at the Inara Tented Camp, from camel rides to quad biking and hiking through the nearby gorge.
We can organise for a special dinner under the stars or a 4x4 safari with a pic-nic.

This truly was a wonderful experience, nothing could have prepared me just for how beautiful and idealic the setting is and how amazing the stars look from out in the Agafay Desert. If you are visiting Morocco you really need to enjoy atleast one night here, with an easy journey of only 40 minutes from Marrakech you simply must visit. With lots of lovely surprises and activities to enjoy you will fall in love with this part of Morocco as I have.

Just an hour outside of the bustling city of Marrakech awaits a luxury getaway in the stone desert. While there are no sand dunes, there is landscape that changes colours with the light, and in the evening a sky that is filled to bursting with stars. The tents themselves are billowing white canvas that has a king size bed, separate living area, and of course, a bathroom with running water. Each tent also has a raised wooden platform that is perfect for having an aperitif, or just enjoying the silence. The dining experience here is one of the most magical and intimate, and not just because the food is outstanding; with a private pavilion, candlelight, and impeccable service, dinner is as special as the desert. There is also a multitude of activities available to satisfy the most adventurous.

I was unsure of what to expect from a "rocky" desert, however, as I watched the sunset over the rolling outcrop with the picturesque silhouette of a camel in my foreground I could not help but be overwhelmed by this very special place. The highlight for me came at night as the camp was delicately illuminated by lanterns and candles as we relaxed to the sound of a traditional live gnaoua band. The spacious tents held plenty of room and the air conditioning unit, although a little noisy, was a welcome relief from the heat of our summer stay.
