Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Like the rest of Borneo's climate is hot and humid. Expect temperatures in the high 20s and low 30s throughout the lowlands. The state’s rainfall averages about 300cm annually and though it rains throughout the year, the heaviest rainfall generally occurs between October and January.

Langkawi has a coastal tropical climate year round, with temperatures ranging from 23°C in the early parts of the year to 34°C towards the end of the year. The wet monsoon season is from April to October making the best time to visit from November to March. The rain starts falling the whole month of June. If you are wary of crowd the try to avoid the Malaysian school holidays as the island becomes very busy during these periods.

This itinerary takes in the culture of Kuching and the dramatic caves and scenery of Mulu National Park, finishing on the glorious beaches of the island of Langkawi. This is a great option for those seeking a mix of adventure and luxury.

  1. Days 1-2: Kuala Lumpur

Start your trip with a night in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Relax after your flight or if you are feeling energetic, why not visit some of the city's cultural sites such as the Petronas Towers, or sample some of the delicious streetfood at one of the markets.

Accommodation: Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur (1 night)

  2. Days 2-4: Kuching

Next fly to Kuching, which is in the Sarawak district on the island of Borneo. Kuching has an interesting history, and was once the home of the famous British 'White Rajah' dynasty, whose rule ended in 1946.

There is plenty to see and do in Kuching depending on your interests. We have included a guided food tour of Kuching as part of this itinerary or you could visit local villages or even enjoy a bespoke cooking class. It is possible to head further afield to visit Bako or Kubah National Park, or the Semenggok Orangutan Centre.

    Accommodation: The Ranee (2 nights)

  3. Days 4-6: Mulu

From Kuching, fly further inland to Mulu National Park, which has some of the most diverse and dramatic scenery in Borneo. During your stay here, we have included a visit to the park's incredible caves where your guide will tell you about the geology and history of the area. After spending time underground you will venture through the treetops on adventurous canopy walks.

Accommodation: Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa (2 nights)

  4. Days 6-7: Kuching

Fly back to Kuching today and partake in an included cycling tour of the waterfront. Later, why not explore the diverse waterfront at your own leisure, enjoying local buskers and markets by day and at night enjoy the mellow sounds of the call to prayer.

    Accommodation: The Ranee (1 night)

  5. Days 7-14: Langkawi

The last part of your trip will see you journey to Langkawi; a lush tropical island off the west coast of Malaysia. Surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea, Langkawi offers visitors a combination of jungle clad interior, picturesque paddy fields and white-gold sand. This is the perfect place to end your trip seeing the highlights of Sarawak and Langkawi.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Resort Langkawi (7 nights)
