Description

You will begin your trip with two nights in Amman, which gives you a chance to visit the spectacular Roman ruins of Jerash followed by a walking tour of Amman itself with a private guide for the day. This gives you a good historical overview of the country and region, stretching back to the Roman age, through the Islamic and Umayyad period up until the present day.

From Amman you will continue to the Dana Nature Reserve, where you will trek to your next hotel. Start at the top of valley and wind your way down through the spectacular scenery, accompanied by your local Bedouin guide, before arriving at the wonderful Feynan Ecolodge

Whilst it is possible just to spend one night at Feynan, two nights will give you more opportunity to explore the surrounding area and enjoy some of the lodge's other activities including mountain biking or spending time with the local community. Whilst the lodge is simple, it is very charming, and this is a lovely way to get more off the beaten track.

Your next destination is the legendary Petra. Entering through the siq, your first glimpse of the Treasury is hugely memorable. You will be accompanied by a private local guide for two hours, and will then have the rest of the day to explore the site. Don't miss the Monastery which has the most spectacular views, although you will need to climb nearly 1,000 steps to reach it.

A night in Wadi Rum should be included in every Jordan itinerary. Bespoke Hideaways Discovery Bedu has just six tented suites, and offers stunning panoramic views of the desert. Journey through the desert in a jeep ride with a local Bedouin, stopping off to admire the natural wonders and hidden historical sites. To have the complete Arabian experience, you may also wish to include a camel ride.

The Red Sea is one of the best places in the world for diving and snorkeling, and a stay at the Kempinski Aqaba gives you the opportunity to experience this underwater world. If you would prefer to just relax, the hotel's pool and private beach are the perfect spots in which to do this.

From the Red Sea to the Dead Sea, you will finish your trip with three nights at the Kempinski Ishtar. Floating on the salty water of the Dead Sea is an extraordinary experience, and there are some fabulous spa treatments on offer here at the largest spa in the Middle East. Should you wish, it is also possible to continue your cultural exploration, with visits to the historical town of Madaba and the holy sites of Mt Nebo and Bethany Beyond the Jordan.

When to go

For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom. March can be cold and rainy in the north but is balmy by the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.
