You will begin your trip with two nights in Amman, which gives you a chance to visit the spectacular Roman ruins of Jerash followed by a walking tour of Amman itself with a private guide for the day. This gives you a good historical overview of the country and region, stretching back to the Roman age, through the Islamic and Umayyad period up until the present day. During the walking tour of Amman, you will also have the opportunity to taste some of the best falafel in the country, as well as the most famous kunafa, a Jordanian sweet.

Following your two nights of culture, you will head to the Dead Sea for a spot of relaxation, visiting en route the mosaic town of Madaba, and Mount Nebo. Here you can float in the world-famous salty water, as well as experiencing spa treatments which make use of the Dead Sea's minerals and rich mud.

Feeling rejuvenated, you will continue to the Dana Nature Reserve, stopping off at Kerak or Shobak Crusader castles on the way, and then spending your first night at the Dana Guesthouse. The most basic of the hotels featured in this itinerary, it has spectacular views and is an ideal spot to watch the sunset.

Dana Nature Reserve is ideal for those looking for some beautiful treks and walks. If you would like to make the most of this, you may like to spend a few nights here. We recommend walking for five hours down through the valley, accompanied by a guide, to Feynan Eco Lodge where you can spend your next night. With no electricity and a telescope on the roof terrace, it is perfect for stargazing. At sunset, the whole hotel is lit up by candlelight giving it an intimate and romantic atmosphere.

Your next destination is the legendary Petra. Entering through the siq, your first glimpse of the Treasury is hugely memorable. You will be accompanied by a private local guide for two hours, and will then have the rest of the day to explore the site. Don't miss the Monastery which has the most spectacular views, but with 980 steps to get up to it, it isn't for the fainthearted!

A night in the desert of Wadi Rum should be included in every Jordan vacation, and this itinerary gives you the chance to stay in the most luxurious camp. Bespoke Hideaways has just six tented suites with private bathrooms and some of the most stunning views. While here, you can explore the desert by both camel and jeep before sunset, spend the evening stargazing, and the next morning get up before sunset for a hot air balloon ride.

The Red Sea is one of the best places in the world for diving and snorkeling, and a stay at the Kempinski Aqaba gives you the opportunity to experience the underwater world. If you would prefer to just relax, the hotel's pool and private beach are the perfect spots in which to do this.

Drive back up to the Dead Sea for one final float or massage in the afternoon, before heading off the next morning.

When to go

For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom. March can be cold and rainy in the north but is balmy by the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.
