The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.
Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.
This is a unique and adventurous itinerary that offers the chance to experience a real off-the-beaten-track holiday in Kenya, taking in some of the country's most scenic areas, from breath-taking views over the Mathews Range to the rolling hills of Lewa, and phenomenal game viewing experienced in a vehicle, on foot, and even by horseback before finishing in Samburu where you will have the opportunity to track the rare and endangered rhino.
Your holiday begins as you land in Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi where you will connect with your charter flight to the Laikipia area in northern Kenya. You will spend the next three nights in a conservancy which offers not only spectacular game viewing, but plenty of activities too. Spend the next couple of days on game drives and riding safaris, or experience the thrill of a walking safari where you can gain a whole new understanding of the bush and the way that every animal and plant has adapted to the environment.
Your holiday continues as you are privately transferred by charter flight to Nyasura. Here you will meet your guides and be briefed about Karisia Walking Safaris where you will spend the next three nights on a mobile walking safari with camels. Each day will bring new landscapes where you will come across sacred ground and has been used for a millennium by those seeking shelter, journey through rich Acacia bush, and even come across plains game and potentially even some predators such as lion and hyena along the way. You camp will be set up for you prior to your arrival and each day will end with a sundowner in hand followed by a warming and hearty bush meal.
Today you depart from Karisia Walking Safaris and will be privately transferred by aircraft to Saruni Samburu where you will spend the next three nights. This remote area of northern Kenya is the perfect place to enjoy a combination of relaxing and spectacular wildlife on daily game drives, along with nature walks and other exciting activities. During your stay enjoy spectacular views over the Kalama Conservancy all the way to Mount Kenya.
Your holiday comes to an end in Samburu and at the unique and adventurous camp of Saruni Rhino. You will spend the last three nights of your holiday on the 350,000-hectare Sera Conservancy where you will be able to track rhino on foot, in the first tracking experience of its kind in East Africa. Spend your days tracking these threatened animals on foot and actively contribute to the protection of an iconic animal species. Spend the rest of your time enjoying the vast and beautiful Samburu landscape, with plenty of birdwatching opportunities, cultural experiences such as a visit to the ‘singing wells’, or simply relaxing in camp before you have to head home.
Experience a different kind of safari and take a pack trip out into the Lewa Conservancy on the back of a camel.
Explore this spectacular landscape on mountain bike. The silence and off-road abilities of the bike allow you to get right up close to big game.
Horseback safaris are the most exciting way to see the bush and in Kenya they are without a doubt the most exciting and adventurous safari you can do.
A scenic flight is the ultimate way to enjoy Kenya's spectacular landscapes, whether by helicopter or in the wonderful Waco bi-plane, it is an experience of a lifetime.
Explore the African bush on foot with your experienced guide and tracker. A fantastic opportunity to experience a different perspective, away from the noise of a safari vehicle.
