From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half, while the dry season here lasts from December to March. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C.
Get a taste of Sri Lanka's highlights by spending a week covering the famed tea plantations and palm tree lined beaches. This itinerary is perfect for those not wanting to spend too many days moving around but wish to see some of the countries highlights and although this itinerary only takes in two places there are plenty of experiences on offer.
Once in Sri Lanka you will be driven the short distance The Wallawwa. This property is perfect to unwind after the flight, whether that is lounging around the pool or booking a treatment at the spa. You will also get a taste of the Sri Lankan cuisine as chefs blend the best of Sri Lanka and South Asia along with good old home cooked recipes.
The next day your driver will be back to collect you for the journey into the Hill Country where you will stay at Camellia Hills for three nights. Camellia Hills is set in the Bogawantalawa Valley, known as the Golden Valley of Tea and has panoramic views over the famous Castlereagh Reservoir.
Whilst here visit a few of the tea factories and see how the process of tea making starts and finishes. If you wish to stretch your legs a little further then walk up Adam's peak, the sunrise up here is well worth the wake up call. For those more in tune with water head out on to Castlereagh Reservoir for a boat ride.
The following four nights are spent at KK Beach located just outside of historic Galle. KK Beach is a six bedroom boutique property located right on the beach. Owned by an interior designer the property is known for its contemptory design whilst also showcasing unique pieces of Sri Lankan art.
The hotel's restaurant serves up delicious seafood barbecues, Sri Lankan delicacies and Western dishes with a twist. Hop on the hotel shuttle bus to its sister hotel Kahanda Kanda for a change of scene or head into Galle which has a wide range of fantastic restaurants.
Over the four nights here either stay back and relax around the 20m infinity pool or set off on two wheels and cycle through rural Galle before going down the Kapu Ela River by boat. The south coast is well known for its marine life so we suggest heading out on a private catamaran to spot whales and dolphins. Closer to shore you can go snorkelling and diving.
During your stay in the Hill Country, explore the tea plantations where you can see the tea pluckers at work, visit a tea factory, or go for a walk through the rolling green hills.
