Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

Itinerary

This is the ultimate bucket list trip for anyone looking to tick off skiing in the world's top ski destination, Jackson Hole and hitting the shops in the Big Apple, New York.

  1. Fly to Jackson Hole

  2. Days 1-7: Jackson Hole Ski

Your adventure begins the moment you board your flight to Jackson Hole, make sure you secure a window seat on the right hand side of the plane if you can, the views as you come into land are quite simply breathtaking. As Jackson Hole is located in Grand Teton National Park, the awesome sight of the rugged mountains surrounding the town on the flat valley floor is a view that you'll never forget.

The skiing at Jackson Hole is legendary. Home to some of the most thrilling steep terrain in the world, including the infamous Corbet's Couloir, the resort has a tremendous snow record with record breaking powder days aplenty. The town of Jackson itself is lively and interesting, with wooden sidewalks, cowboy saloons and classic western restaurants and bars. And if you're a fan of country music you'll be in heaven. Jackson town is a 15-minute drive from the base of the slopes so you can choose to base yourself either in the town or at the purpose-built Teton Village, the lift base. Back on the mountain, indulge the ski animal in you by tackling the steep chutes, severe bowls and acres of untracked backcountry and deep powder. If you've got the guts, take on the mighty Corbet's Couloir or at least go and see how the pros do it. It's not all about how steep and how deep though as the resort has spent a lot of time increasing the skiing available for intermediates so that nearly 50% of the slopes are more gentle.

Accommodation: Terra Jackson Hole (6 nights)
