Stay at luxurious and stylish properties in both Bogota and Cartagena
Flight connections to a number of neighbouring countries make it easy to add some time at the beach to finish
Colombia is a year round destination but the best time to travel is from December to March. As it is a tropical country you can get rain at any time however there tends to be two rainier seasons: from April to June and from September to October.
Taking in the absolute highlights of Colombia, this week-long itinerary is the perfect introduction to this stunning country, staying at luxurious boutique properties to take in the best of Bogota and the colonial gem of Cartagena on the Caribbean coast.
Begin in the capital, Bogota, a city with distinct neighbourhoods, each with its own character and charm. You will be transferred to your stylish hotel, located in an affluent district in the north of the city which is renowned for its galleries, excellent restaurants and lively nightlife. Surrounded by the Andes, Bogota offers spectacular scenery, and a cable car ride up to the peak of the neighbouring hill of Monserrate provides stunning views over the city and mountains beyond. After getting your bearings, wander the cobbled streets of La Candelaria, visiting a range of fascinating museums and galleries, before exploring the boutiques and markets of Zona Rosa for a spot of shopping.
From here, a short flight brings you to Cartagena on the Caribbean coast, a charming colonial city with plenty of character which invites visitors to wander for days and simply soak in the buzzing atmosphere. This walled city is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the Americas and was once the gateway for the Spanish empire in the New World. Cartagena's old quarter is a treasure trove of shady plazas, cobbled streets and lovely churches, a joy to gently explore in the Caribbean heat. If the city gets too much, opt to take a boat out to the Rosario Islands on a day-trip for white sand beaches and coral reefs, with refreshing waters to dive into and cool off. Alternatively, spend some time lounging poolside at your hotel, conveniently located in the heart of the old town.
Explore colonial Cartagena, taking in the city's key sights as you learn about the history of this old walled city. Visit the main museums, the iconic Santo Domingo church and the Inquisition Palace, accompanied by a private guide.
