Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Costa Rica’s Central Valley enjoys a spring-like climate year round. In the tropical coastal areas the temperature is very warm and humid. Much of Costa Rica is covered by rainforest so expect rain at any time, but the drier season on the Pacific coast is from December to April and the rainier ‘green’ season is from May to November with the heaviest rainfall being in September and October. Christmas, New Year and Easter are incredibly popular so it is best to book well in advance.

Itinerary

Experience Costa Rica at its wildest and most beautiful on this thrilling adventure that includes white water rafting at the wonderful Pacuare Lodge, lush jungles, the dramatic Arenal volcano and picturesque beaches, with superb accommodation throughout.

  1. Fly to San Jose

  2. Days 1-3: Coffee Region

Arrive in San Jose and begin your trip in the beautiful and lush Central Valley, the perfect place to unwind after a flight and a great introduction to the Costa Rican way of life. Wake up to birdsong, wander the grounds, take in a coffee tour or simply spend time relaxing by the pool before the adventure begins.

Accommodation: Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation Resort (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-6: Turrialba

It’s an early start today as you’re picked up from your hotel and transferred in a private vehicle out of the city, through countryside to a drop off point where you’re met and greeted by a guide, who will give you a quick introduction to white water rafting. From here, begins your thrilling adventure along the beautifully wild Pacuare River to Pacuare Lodge. This remote luxury lodge is a magical place for discovering the rainforest and contains Costa Rica’s highest canopy walkway, as well as offering activities such as canyoning, horse riding, zip-lining and visits to some of the local indigenous Cabecar Indian communities. The lodge is lit by candles in the evening so is incredibly atmospheric and a fabulous destination for couples and honeymooners looking for a unique and memorable experience.

    Accommodation: Pacuare Lodge (3 nights)

  4. Days 6-9: Arenal

Return by an exhilarating raft ride to the river’s put-out point and transfer on to one of Costa Rica’s top highlights, the Arenal volcano. Arenal is a great base for all kinds of adventure activities, from traversing hanging bridges and zip-lining up in the canopy, to horse riding and trekking. This geo-thermal area is also famous for its natural hot springs – the perfect place to ease tired muscles after a day’s activity!

    Accommodation: Nayara Springs (3 nights)

  5. Days 9-13: Santa Teresa

Your final stop on this romantic tour of Costa Rica is the beautiful Nicoya Peninsula and the sleepy beach town of Santa Teresa. You set the pace: unwind with lazy days on the beach and wandering through the town’s boutique shops or for those who prefer, Santa Teresa is a hotspot for both yoga and surfing.

    Accommodation: Latitude 10 (4 nights)

  6. Fly home

Experiences

  • Rafting the Pacuare River

The Pacuare River offers some of the finest white water in Latin America, winding through rugged canyons deep inside one of Costa Rica's impressive rainforests. As no roads lead to Pacuare Lodge, rafting in and out is the perfect way to arrive in style!
