April to October is best for time for visiting Peru’s Andean region and main highlights, as well as the Atacama Desert in Chile. It is typically sunny in the day and cold at night due to altitude. Heavy rains last from December to end of February with January and February being the wettest months. Peru is very popular in the high season, especially during their many cultural festivals such as Inti Raymi on 24 June, so best to book well in advance.
Adrenaline-fuelled and packed with adventures, this two-week itinerary through Peru & Chile is perfect for active families and teenagers. Explore the highlights of Peru's Sacred Valley and the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu before flying to Chile and enjoying the dramatic landscapes of the Atacama Desert which act as a perfect playground for adventurous teens.
Begin your adventure in Lima, Peru's lively capital and foodie paradise. Enjoy a tour of the centre and take in the rich history of this diverse country with a visit to one of the city's many fascinating museums or even the eerie catacombs of one of its many churches. Two nights here offers the perfect introduction to Peru and will give you time to rest up after the international flight.
The following day fly to Cuzco and transfer to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, which is a fantastic hub for an array of adventure sports, affording impressive mountain scenery and rich Andean culture. A three-night stay at the fully-inclusive Explora Sacred Valley gives you a choice of over 30 different activities to enjoy here, accommodating a range of different fitness levels and abilities. Hike through dramatic mountain landscapes, descend rugged trails by mountain bike and visit Andean villages, lagoons and colourful markets along the way. During your stay here, enjoy a full day trip to Machu Picchu by train with a private tour of the ruins and return in time for dinner at the lodge.
Return by train and road to Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital, and one of the most interesting cities in the Americas. Spanish colonial architecture sits on top of Inca masonry, and there are many narrow streets and squares filled with vibrant market stalls, great museums and wonderfully evocative sites like the temple of Sacsayhuaman to explore. Stay for two nights and enjoy the city’s charm and lively ambience before flying to Santiago to begin your Chile adventure.
Spend two nights in Santiago, Chile’s capital, taking in a guided tour of the city’s highlights. Enjoy exploring the many varied neighbourhoods and make your way up the San Cristobal hill for fantastic panoramic views!
Fly north to the Atacama Desert, staying at Explora Atacama for four nights to make the most of the incredible red rock scenery in the world’s highest and driest desert. Again, adventures here are fully inclusive and there is so much on offer. Observe vast geysers, volcanoes and vibrant lagoons, go horse riding through the stark landscapes and rugged canyons, go hiking, cycling and even stargazing to make the most of your stay in this impressive environment. Ending your trip on a high, fly back home via Santiago.
Founded by Francisco Pizarro as the 'City of Kings', modern day Lima is a bustling and metropolitan city. Explore the colonial plazas, rediscovered Inca and pre-Inca archaeological sites, famous museums such as the Larco and the wonderful food!
Discover the highlights of Santiago on a half day walking tour exploring the cultural and historic highlights from bohemian Bellavista to the colonial quarter and Chile's largest seafood market.
