Itinerary

Explore the water wonderland of Botswana's Okavango Delta, staying at two luxurious sister-camps, Nxabega and Sandibe. When not enjoying the comforts of camp head out on exciting day and night game drives in search of game, appreciate the smaller details on a bush for, or drift gently along the water channels of the delta in a mokoro or boat.

  1. Fly to Maun

  2. Days 1-5: Nxabega Concession

Your holiday begins in the heart of the magical Okavango Delta to stay at Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp for four nights. Situated in a private concession, Nxabega is west of Chief’s Island and is surrounded by a variety of environments from grasslands dotted with palm islands, mopane woodlands and the water habitats: from lily-covered lagoons to the deeper, papyrus-lined channels.

Whilst here days will consist of day and night 4X4 game drives, bush walks with a guide, trips in the motor boat on the deeper water channels and mokoro trips, all included. Elephant are frequent visitors here, along with giraffe and several species of antelope, and leopard and lion can sometimes be seen slinking through the dense bush. The area also lends itself beautifully to birding, with over 450 species to be found, including notables such as painted snipe, pink-backed pelican, malachite kingfisher and a variety of raptors and water birds.

Accommodation: &Beyond Nxabega Okavango Safari Camp (4 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: Chitabe Concession

Your journey continues to the south east corner of the Delta where Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge sits on the borders of the Moremi Game Reserve. These forest areas are encircled by floodplains and deep channels, perfect for boat safaris and mokoro trips. This concession is well known for its migrant elephant population, which often come to visit the camp. A typical day at Sandibe will start with an early morning game activity in search for some of the wildlife that lives in the area, before heading back to camp for brunch. Spend the hottest parts of the day relaxing, just as the animals do, either take a dip in the pool or relax in your room with a book. As the day begins to get cooler again you will meet for afternoon tea which usually includes a selection of cakes and other snacks before heading out into the Delta for your afternoon activity. Activities from Sandibe include day and night game drives, mokoro trips, bush walks and boat trips. On arrival back to the lodge you will be served up a delicious dinner after which you can spend the evening at your leisure.

Accommodation: &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge (3 nights)

  4. Fly home from Maun

Experiences

  • Boat safari in the Okavango Delta

Travel through the waterways of the Okavango Delta on a boat safari, exploring the papyrus reeds and hippo habitats with your guide. The smooth ride offers a soothing alternative to time spent in a vehicle. Always subject to water levels.

  • Fishing in the Okavango

Fishing trips offer visitors to Botswana an opportunity to enjoy a different safari experience. In many areas the fishing is fantastic, you'll also enjoy fantastic wildlife and birdlife over your time on the water. NB not available within national parks.

  • Game drives in the Okavango

One of the best ways to see the big game of Botswana's Okavango Delta is on a game drive with a knowledgeable guide. Explore in open-sided vehicles to maximise your viewing opportunities, this is a truly wildlife rich environment.

  • Mokoro trips in Botswana

Botswana's northern safari areas are full of water channels just waiting to be explored. Larger boats can be used to explore the wider channels but for the aficionado, mokoro trips into the smaller channels are a real treat. Always subject to waterlevels
