Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively visit at the end of the rainy season for some superb bird-watching.
Miavana is an all year round destination and unlike other parts of northern Madagascar which often experience heavy rainfall and cyclones from January to March, these months are a good time of year to be on Miavana for fishing and the waters are clear for snorkelling. You can expect a bit of a breeze and the rainfall is usually overnight.
Escape to Africa for this once in a life time itinerary combining some of the continent’s most exclusive locations. A magical honeymoon or the most incredible family getaway, offering something for everyone. Explore the South Luangwa National Park with its first-class game viewing opportunities before hopping over to Madagascar to the idyllic island sanctuary of Miavana.
Arriving into Zambia’s capital Lusaka, you will be met and whisked off by light aircraft to the wild and remote South Luangwa National Park where you will spend the next five nights at Chinzombo, a chic and elegant safari camp on the banks of the Luangwa River. No expense has been spared when designing the camp, with all six private villas boasting large pools and sun decks with incredible views across the valley. Days at Chinzombo revolve around wildlife whether you are out on a guided game drive in search of the elusive leopard, or on a walking safari identifying animal tracks, getting close up to an unperturbed zebra grazing on the plains. Enjoy evenings around the campfire, exchanging stories with your fellow explorers and dine under the stars as the sound of cicadas come alive in the bush around you.
From the South Luangwa, return to Lusaka by light aircraft and connect with a scheduled flight to Johannesburg where you will overnight at the InterContinental hotel, conveniently located within walking distance of the airport terminal.
Rise early the following morning and check in for your flight from Johannesburg to Nosy Be, a small island off Madagascar’s north west coast where your helicopter awaits your arrival. Leaving Nosy Be by helicopter, fly over the turquoise waters to the exclusive luxury island hideaway of Miavana. With powder white beaches, and crystal-clear waters, Miavana is the ultimate island retreat where time simply stops and stands still. Days are tailored to your own personal wishes, whether up early for a morning scuba dive discovering the underwater paradise, abundant with marine life, or taking a heli hop across to a neighbouring island to explore on foot the vegetated forests home to the Golden Crowed Sifaka lemur and other unique wildlife species. Miavana really is a true island paradise creating memories which will last a life time.
The waters around Miavana are a fisherman's paradise. Go out on one of the state of the art boats, or take a helicopter to search for big game species including giant trevally, bluefin, sail fish and barracuda all waiting to be caught... and released.
Game drives are the most common way of exploring the African bush. A vehicle allows you to cover distance quickly and comfortably and offers visitors the best opportunity of getting very close to wildlife in a safe and controlled way.
Take a boat trip to one of Nosy Ankao's neighbouring islands where you will be accompanied by an expert nature guide as you go in search of the endemic golden crowned sifaka, Perrier's sifaka and crowned lemur as well as a variety of other fauna.
Spend a day (or more) in the company of a professional wildlife photographer to hone your skills and make sure you take back some fantastic photos of your safari in the South Luangwa.
