It is very difficult to predict the weather in the United Kingdom - in the summer from May to late September is generally seen as the most pleasant time to visit. Rainfall is difficult to predict - but the UK does not receive as much as many are led to believe! In the winters, temperatures do fall, but there is nothing better than finding a remote pub with a roaring fire to sit beside after a long walk in the country.
Scotland is known as much for it's stunning scenery as it's history and culture and on this epic off the beaten track adventure, we have showcased the very best of what Scotland has to offer. Beginning with a few days in Edinburgh to acclimatise and get your culture fix you'll then head into the Highlands where lochs, mountains, wildlife and an array of activities await you. We've included a private driver and guide as well as an array of unique activities for a truly Scottish experience.
Your journey will start in the enchanting city of Edinburgh, home to a fascinating mix of medieval and neoclassical architecture, the gothic spire of the Scott Monument, and of course the iconic Edinburgh castle perched atop Castle Rock. Dubbed the Athens of the North, Edinburgh's cobbled streets and sometimes dark history are great fun for the whole family to explore.
Discover the secrets of Scotland's capital with a private walking tour of the Old Town – be sure to let us know if you have any special interests as we can showcase you spots that have been inspiration for Harry Potter, Outlander and much more.
In the afternoon you may choose to continuing exploring at leisure, visit the castle or perhaps ascend to the iconic Arthur’s seat – a peak overlooking the city where you’ll enjoy views stretching to the Firth of Forth and the Highlands.
In the evening, we’ve included an excursion showcasing a different side to Edinburgh, as you venture below ground for a guided tour of the catacombs and vaults that lie beneath the famous Royal Mile. Listen to stories of the former inhabitants and how the catacombs came to be built- perhaps with a ghost story or two!
After spending two nights in Edinburgh it's time to leave the lowlands of Edinburgh and head for the lochs and mountains of the Highlands. On the way north, stop at a beautiful woodland area where a short walk leads you to a large waterfall set in a Georgian Folly. Surrounded by towering Scots pines you are soon transported off the beaten track to fully immerse yourself in the famed Highland spirit. We’ll then take you to a small farm croft, offering a rare insight into the local life here as you meet the owners who have built their livelihood here and take a tour of their land. After enjoying some delicious homemade baked goods, you’ll continue on to your very special home for the next 3 nights; Killiehuntly Farmhouse.
In the heart of the Cairngorms National Park Killiehuntly has a homely setting surrounded by incredible natural beauty, from the rolling hills to the mountain lochs, with a variety of wildlife to discover. From your unique, Scandinavian-inspired Farmhouse you'll venture out to the hills to meet an acclaimed local chef, with whom you’ll spend an enlightening day learning the art of blending spices as well as picking up tips on which whiskies blend with which spices. To finish, take a moment to enjoy the views, with not a single building as far as the eye can see, perhaps with a whisky in hand, knowing you have truly arrived.
After another enjoyable night in the farmhouse we’ve included a truly special experience for you as you set out into a forest clearing to meet a local wood carver to learn the art of their trade. Surrounded by nature, listen to the calls of wildlife as you try out the different tools under expert guidance to make your very own butter knife.
After a relaxing morning whittling, prepare yourself for an action-packed afternoon as we’ve included a guided mountain bike excursion for you- the perfect way to explore the many trails of the Cairngorms. For a truly special view, we’ll take you to the highest beach in the United Kingdom to enjoy a celebratory- and well deserved– ice cream!
From Killiehuntly, head further north where you can choose to either go to Moray Firth - a beautiful stretch of water to the north-east of Inverness in search of Dolphins, or to venture to the famed Loch Ness in search of Monsters. In your private boat enjoy the beautiful scenery that Scotland offers before continuing on to the shores of loch Torridon where the grand Torridon hotel awaits you.
Nestled in 58 acres of parkland in one of Scotland’s most picturesque corners The Torridon is a haven for outdoor activities. We’ve included a sea kayaking adventure for you, where an expert guide will lead you beneath dramatic peaks far away from civilisation where seals bob in the water and eagles soar in the skies. With an appetite sufficiently built up you’ll then enjoy a delicious picnic lunch filled with local produce.
For your final full day, you’ll set out on foot to enjoy breath-taking mountain and sea views as you hike the hills surrounding the Torridon. The route options here are plentiful, so we can easily adapt this depending on your experience and preference.
