This comprehensive fully-serviced mobile safari is a wonderful way to explore Botswana's amazing wildlife areas in a small group and with an outstanding guide. The areas that are visited are varied in terms of both landscape and game viewing and there's a wide variety of activities on offer including game drives, bush walks, boat cruises and mokoro trips.
You will begin your safari in Kasane (or Maun on the reverse route) where you will be met by your guide who will be with you throughout your Botswana safari. You start your wildlife adventure with a boat cruise along the Chobe River which provides you with a unique perspective and some incredible sightings, particularly of the elephants that the park is famous for. You will then be game driven by your guide for approximately 5 hours to the remote Savute region of Chobe National Park. You will spend three nights in the Savute area which is a magnet for cheetah, leopard, lion and wild dog with the long grasses proving perfect hunting territory. This area is also known for large populations of bull elephants who depend on three waterholes, so spending time here can make for some wonderful sightings. The richness of the old marsh also attracts a variety of bird life with red-headed weaver, yellow throated petronia and paradise flycatchers all seen relatively frequently.
You continue your mobile safari by being driven into the Khwai Community Area which lies to the south of Savute. Meanwhile the support team will break down the camp, erecting it at the next camp before your arrival. You will quickly notice the different habitats that you are game driving through and the resultant change in dominant wildlife species. Arriving at camp in time for lunch you will be able to have a siesta before going on a bush walk accompanied by an armed guide (please note - walks will not take place when the grass is too long, usually only affects trips in Feb/Mar after the rains). You will then return to camp in time for dinner and have the opportunity to go on a night drive after dinner, the perfect opportunity to spot more elusive nocturnal species including leopard.
You will spend two full days exploring the Khwai Community Area with the chance to go on bush walks and mokoro cruises as well as day and night game drives. Exploring the bush after dark is an amazing opportunity to spot nocturnal species, including leopard and even more elusive wildlife such as pangolin and aardvark. Taking to the water in a mokoro (traditional dug out canoe) also offers a unique game viewing experience. Drifting along just above the water is a tranquil activity and allows you a hippo's eye perspective of the Delta's waterways and some excellent bird watching.
Your mobile safari continues as you move into the Moremi Game Reserve to stay at Xakanaxa for three nights. It will take approximately four hours to reach your next camp, depending on how much wildlife you see along the way. Your guide will follow the Manuchira Channel through floodplains and mopane woodland before taking a break at the Dombo Hippo Pools where you can witness the hippo's antics before continuing to your camp in time for a siesta followed by an afternoon game drive.
Your next two days will be spent exploring the Xakanaxa region of the Moremi Game Reserve on game drives. This is one of the most game rich areas of Botswana with plenty to see including wild dog if you're lucky - this is one of the best places in all of Africa to spot them - as well as cheetah and leopard being seen regularly.
On your final morning in the Okavango Delta you will be woken early for one last game drive before being taken to the airstrip in time for your light aircraft flight to Maun marking the end of your Botswanan safari adventure.
