Continuing south, fly to Castro where you will embark upon your discovery of the mystical Chiloé island, crossing one of Chile's many lakes to reach the remote Tierra Chiloé. Immerse yourself in the magical maritime culture of this unique island, explore its many fjords and waterways by boat and check out its UNESCO world heritage churches. Tierra Chiloé offers brilliant excursions and day trips, from trekking, biking and horseback riding to boat trips and cultural activities, the perfect way to explore the diversity of the Island.

Next, you will be transferred by boat and then road to Quincho Country Home, a stunning and exclusive property surrounded by four hectares of woodland and gardens, perfectly based near Puerto Varas to enjoy Chile's Lake district and the numerous activities on offer in the region. Trek to your heart's content, enjoy the thrill of white-water rafting and kayak on the calm waters for a more gentle way to experience the beautiful scenery.

Fly south to Punta Arenas where you will be met by staff from Explora Patagonia, who will take you to the hotel located on the shore of Lake Pehoe, right in the heart of the Torres del Paine National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Site. When to go

Due to its length and topography, Chile’s Southern region and the Lake district have different climates:

Chiloé is a year round destination, but there is likely to be better weather between November and March, when the sun makes an appearance between the rainclouds. Chiloé is a notoriously rainy, foggy place particularly along its pacific coast, something which only adds to the mysticism of the place.

For Patagonia, early summer (November) can be lovely, and in late summer and autumn (March) the colors are stunning. But if you’re planning to go riding in the open steppes, midsummer is wonderful. In the peak summer months of January and February the trails in the park are much busier at this time. At any time of year, Torres del Paine has its own microclimate: unpredictable. Expect four seasons in one day.
