Ladakh is open for tourists only during the summer months (May to September) as it is the only season when the passes open.
The weather of Ladakh remains cold and chilly for most part of the year. Winters (October to May) are very cold, frost bites are common occurrence, making it a very inhospitable climate for visiting. During these months the whole area is covered with snow. Monsoon season experiences rainfall but due to the land slides, the area is closed. The temperature is cool and can go up to 33°C.
This itinerary allows you to explore an untouched part of the high Indian Himalaya as you visit the spectacular region of Ladakh. Largely accessible only in the months between May and September, Ladakh offers a snapshot into a unique rural mountain culture. Sandwiched by Delhi, acting as your gateway into India and the region, through this itinerary you’ll get a real taste of the enchanting rural and dramatic landscapes of this rarely visited area.
Your itinerary will start with two nights in Delhi. Spend time enjoying the sites of Old and New Delhi with your expert guide. We work with some of the best guides in India who are incredibly flexible, making sure that you have the best experience possible completely tailored to you. We can also recommend some excellent restaurants in the city for you to sample some authentic Rajasthani cuisine.
You will then fly from Delhi to Leh, the gateway to the beautiful region of Ladakh. Ladakh is situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3,500m up on the high plateau. With a high altitude desert dominated by rugged snow capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes it is often referred to as ‘little Tibet’.
Over your seven nights here you’ll be moving throughout the region staying at small and boutique accommodation as you take in the remote and wild landscape, away from the more tourist area such as Leh. The dramatic mountains that encircle Ladakh make the region like a high-altitude desert, juxtaposed against lush green paddy fields hugging the mighty river valleys producing landscapes that seem otherworldly. Everything you do in Ladakh is totally flexible and done at your pace ensuring your experience of this region is suitably exhilarating.
