Average time to visit

Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

Itinerary

Fly to Livingstone
Day 1-4

Victoria Falls - the Zambia side

Flying overnight into Livingstone, the gateway to Victoria Falls, you’ll be met by your driver and whisked away to Tongabezi Lodge, a privately-owned hideaway on the banks of the Zambezi River. This stunningly stylish retreat presents some beautiful viewpoints of the Zambezi, where you can while away your time plunging into tranquillity in your private pool and indulging in mouth-watering cuisine; sinking your toes into the private sandbank along the river for an exclusive lunch is a dining experience to remember.
Start your Zambian sojourn with something special this evening and cruise down the Zambezi River with a glass of wine in hand and delicious snacks, watching herds of elephants drinking at the river’s edge, backed by towering palm trees silhouetted in the glow of the setting sun. During your three days here you’ll have the chance to meander through the forests and trails of Victoria Falls and walk along the gorge below it and experience the splendour of this natural wonder from below. Game drive through the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and marvel at herds of majestic elephants.

Accommodation: Tongabezi ( 3 nights )
Day 4-8

Lower Zambezi

This morning you’ll be privately transferred to Livingstone Airport to catch your light aircraft to the Lower Zambezi National Park. Feel your excitement build as you fly over one of the most scenic areas in Zambia that is dotted with wildlife, sand banks and lush vegetation. On landing in this wilderness your guide will game drive you to Sausage Tree Camp, a safari lodge that exudes elegance and minimalist style. With it’s incredible location tucked away on the banks of the river, the elephants ambling past won’t even notice you as you observe them from the serenity of your private plunge pool. This afternoon as the sun starts to cool, venture out into the wild on a game drive to enjoy scenic sundowners before spotting the nocturnal species that come out as night begins to fall, perhaps spotting a honey badger or a porcupine.
Spend your days here enjoying immersive safari activities, with doses of indulgence in between. There is more to a safari than game drives, with canoe safaris, boat cruises and thrilling walking safari’s on offer, all of which will give you a totally unique perspective of the wildlife. Back at camp, enjoy a whisky around a crackling campfire, listening to the sounds of lions roaring in the distance.

Accommodation: Sausage Tree Camp ( 4 nights )
Day 8-11

South Luangwa National Park

After one last venture in the Lower Zambezi, you’ll be flown to the South Luangwa National Park. Your home for the final leg of your safari journey is Chinzombo, a wildly luxurious retreat in the enchanting Luangwa Valley. You’ll have your very own dreamy bush villa looking directly out at the Luangwa River. Dip your toes in your private pool and anticipate your days ahead which are promised to be brimming with thrilling experiences. Let your excitement wander as you follow in the tracks of the rare African wild dog, in the hope of witnessing these elusive canines. Feel the thrill of being in a leopard’s presence, as she gazes out at you from an acacia tree on a night game drive. Go on the ultimate nature walk led by an expert walking guide, float down the river by boat and feel the palpable serenity of the Zambezi as you observe crocodiles and pods of hippos. You will also have the chance to meet a local village and learn how they live in this wilderness. Back at Chinzombo, enjoy drinks with the other guests at the fire pit, before indulging on a spread of delicious food under a blanket of star constellations.
