Cape Town and  Garden Route summers are generally warm and dry, while winters tend to be wet and cool, the rains brought on by fierce north westerly gales. Neither season experiences extremes of temperature, thanks to prevailing winds. Summer (Nov-Mar) is the hottest with temperatures 20-40°C. Mid season (Apr, May, Sep, Oct) temps between 10-30°C. Winter (from June- Aug) is the low season with temps 0-25°C.

Itinerary

This picturesque itinerary takes you from cosmopolitan Cape Town and along the beautiful Garden Route where you can enjoy the stunning landscapes of South Africa. Stop off along the way in the Winelands to enjoy delicious food and wine before you reach the coast and the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay.

  1. Days 1-4: Cape Town & the Western Cape

    Arrive into Cape Town’s International Airport, pick up your hire car and self-drive to your hotel. Begin your western cape adventure in the heart of this cosmopolitan city and enjoy the bars and restaurants of Kloof and Long Streets’, visit Cape Point and the bustling waterfront before exploring picturesque Camps Bay and taking in the views from Table Mountain. We can help you with restaurant reservations and organise specially tailored and unique sightseeing to suit your needs.

  2. Days 4-6: Franschhoek

    Drive on from Cape Town to the beautiful landscapes of the winelands. Relax and unwind in the beautiful surroundings of the Franschhoek Valley. Indulge yourself with fantastic restaurants and vineyards, where wine tasting is a must.

  3. Days 6-7: Garden Route

    Continue to charming Swellendam located at the beginning of the Garden Route. Spend an afternoon at one of the areas olive estates, stop off at pottery studio or visit the Drostdy was built by the Dutch East India Company in 1747 and remains one of the oldest building in South Africa .

    Accommodation: Jan Harmsgat Country House (1 night)

  4. Days 7-9: Plettenberg Bay

    Drive further along the Garden Route to picturesque Plettenberg Bay. Discovery miles of breath-taking coastline and explore Robberg Nature Reserve Peninsula – a wildlife sanctuary which supports a myriad of diverse plants and animals while offering excellent hiking trails.

    The town itself offers a multitude of excellent dinning options, bars and cafes along with an array of galleries and boutiques.

  5. Fly on to your next destination

    Your journey ends at Plettenberg Bay or Port Elizabeth airport where you will take a flight to your onward destination.

  • Robben Island Trip

    A short ferry ride from the V and A Waterfront in Cape Town is the famous Robben Island, a cultural must-do when staying in Cape Town, this trip gives an insight into South Africa's difficult history, as well as brilliant views across Cape Towns harbour.

  • Whale watching on the Western Cape

    Southern right whales visit the Western Cape from about June to December every year. These beautiful gentle giants congregate to the shores of Hermanus all the way along the coast line towards Plettenberg Bay.

  • Wine Tasting along the Constantia Wine Route

    South Africa is well known for its exquisite Winelands and Constantia was one of the first wine-producing areas in the western cape, dating back to the 1600s, spend a day visiting the areas famous vineyards as you take in the beautiful scenery.
