Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

October to May is the best time to visit these areas of Thailand with generally dry and sunny days that are perfect for exploring and relaxing on the beach. A fantastic time to visit Thailand is during Songkran from 13-15 April when the whole country turns into a big water fight and this is a really fun experience.

Itinerary

Put simply this is the definitive Thailand itinerary; combine the delights of bustling Bangkok, the cultural adventure playground of Northern Thailand and the palm-fringed beaches of Krabi. It brings together fantastic experiences and relaxation in equal measure while fully introducing you to the beating heart of this fascinating country.

  1. Days 1-4: Bangkok

Start your adventure in Bangkok where you will stay for three nights soaking up the sights and sounds of this non-stop capital city. We suggest spending a fun morning with your personal guide, jumping in a traditional long-tail boat to drift slowly down the klongs to a rural floating-market to see how the locals really live. A visit to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace are also a must, arriving early in the morning to listen to the chanting of monks, before heading inside the temple the marvel at the vast 45m (147ft) reclining Buddha. Explore resplendent throne rooms and museums crammed with priceless curios as your guide explains the unique relationship Thai people have with their King and Queen. Finish off your day in a roof-top bar or ask the Scott Dunn team about the hottest new restaurant in town. We always tailor each Bangkok experience to each guest, so let us know your interests and we will turn it into reality.

Accommodation: COMO Metropolitan Bangkok (3 nights)

  2. Days 4-6: Golden Triangle

Fly to Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand which lies in the heart of the Golden Triangle with outstanding views of Myanmar and Laos, overlooking the Mekong River. Spend your days exploring the area, trekking alongside rescued elephants and bathing them in the river, visiting the hill tribes of the north or simply watching the world go by as you journey down the Mekong on a traditional long-tail boat. There are treks into the remotest corners of Northern Thailand, and maybe you’d like to stop at a traditional restaurant on your ongoing search for the perfect Pad Thai.

Accommodation: Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort (2 nights)

  3. Days 6-9: Chiang Mai

Drive through the hills to Chiang Mai, Thailand's cultural northern hub. There is so much to see and do here, from exploring the vibrant markets to wandering down narrow streets, the air spiced with the tantalising scent of sizzling street food. With your guide, spend a half day exploring some of the city’s better-known temples and visit the silver craft neighbourhood to learn how the traditional murals are made. We also recommend hopping on a bicycle and heading out into the stunning countryside to explore ancient ruins and local villages alongside your knowledgeable guide.

Accommodation: 137 Pillars House (3 nights)

  4. Days 9-14: Krabi

After all your adventures in the north, fly directly to Krabi for some relaxing time on the beach. You can of course select from a range of beach hotels Scott Dunn feature in Koh Samui, Phuket, Koh Lanta or Krabi - but for this itinerary we think Tubkaak fits the bill. With a fantastic beach and views overlooking Yao Noi and the Hong Islands - its position is hard to beat. Unwind for five perfect nights, perhaps taking a kayak out to watch the sun set or spending a day island hopping and snorkelling, taking in the last of the beautiful scenery before eventually it’s time to head home.

    Accommodation: Tubkaak (5 nights)
