November to April is the best time to visit as this is technically the dry season. However, this is rainforest so it can rain at any time. The best time for wildlife viewing in southern Costa Rica is in the 'drier' season from November to April. May to December is the 'green season' when it rains more than the rest of the year. October tends to be the wettest month, the creeks rise and roads can be impassable. Costa Rica is incredibly popular over Christmas, New Year and peak holidays so we recommend booking well in advance.
Packed full of diverse destinations, this tour explores the best of Costa Rica, incorporating the must-see places, off-the-beaten-track hideaways, misty volcanoes, wildlife-rich rainforests and golden sands, whilst staying in eco yet luxurious accommodation throughout.
Begin your trip in the verdant Central Valley, where you’ll wake each day to birdsong and beautiful views and life just generally goes by at a slower pace. After a long flight, relaxation is often the order of the day and you’re in the perfect place: relax by the lovely outdoor pool or take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque coffee plantations.
From the Central Valley head north to the iconic Arenal Volcano. Arenal is a great base for all kinds of adventure activities, from canopy walks, to horse riding, white-water rafting and trekking. We’ve included a thrilling zip-line through the canopy, which many will argue is a must in Arenal. This geo-thermal area is also famous for its natural hot springs – the perfect place to ease tired muscles after a day’s activity!
Continue your journey today to the incredible Osa Peninsula, one of the most bio-diverse and untouched places in the country. We’ve included a selection of activities here from sunrise and sunset tours, trips to wild waterfalls, hikes through the rainforest both during the day and the night so you have the chance to meet the jungle’s day and night-time residents! Guiding is excellent and lodges in this area are ecologically conscious with a touch of luxury - perfect for those looking to really immerse themselves in nature whilst not having to sacrifice any of the creature comforts that make for a relaxing stay!
Your final stop on this must-do trip is Manuel Antonio, a national park that has been popular for many years now and with good reason. Included in your stay is a whale-watching excursion that gives you great opportunities to see these fantastic creatures and also a guided tour through Manuel Antonio National Park, where you’ll observe sloths hanging in the trees, share the beach with monkeys and iguanas and the can take a dip in the ocean, which is suitable even for young or less confident swimmers. We recommend using Manuel Antonio as a base to explore this stretch of Pacific coastline. Tours and activities offered include white water rafting, mangrove kayaking and boat tours, guided rainforest hikes, ocean kayaking, catch and release sport fishing, canopy tours, and horseback riding excursions. Restaurants and bars are within easy reach.
