Itinerary

This itinerary takes you to from the enchanting city of Oslo on to the heart of Aurland and the famous Flåm railway before delving into Norwegian Fjord land and to pretty Bergen with its historic buildings. This itinerary is perfect for experiencing the heart of authentic Norway and an outdoor lifestyle that is embraced by locals – and it is easy to see why with majestic glaciers, fjords and mountains to explore.

  1. Days 1-3: Oslo

Oslo is the entry way into Norway and a charming, cosmopolitan city which features a mixture of both modern and classic architecture, against a backdrop of rolling hills. Oslo has a booming contemporary art scene, some of which is highlighted at Vigeland Sculpture park where you can meander among over 200 bronze and granite statues. In contrast to the modern, high-rise buildings the city also plays homage to its Viking roots, which can be explored at the Museum of Cultural History and the Viking Ship Museum. We have included a guided tour to take you around the highlights of the city, where you will walk past many beautiful buildings such as the Royal Palace and the National Theatre.

    Accommodation: Amerikalinjen (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-6: Bergen & Hordaland

The journey to your next destination is an event in itself as we suggest taking the train, firstly to Myrdal which takes around four and a half hours, from where you will join the iconic Flåm railway, one of the worlds most beautiful train journeys. The 55-minute journey takes you on one of the steepest train lines in the world as you pass through a breath-taking landscape of steep mountains, glistening fjords and plunging waterfalls. You are sure to be disappointed when your journey comes to an end, already planning a repeat trip.

From here, it is a short journey to the charming, 29/2 Aurland, whose owners Tone & Bjorn await with a wonderful Norwegian welcome. From here there are a number of different ways to explore on foot or by bike, as picnic lunches and epic hikes await, as well as incredible views of the fjord. For a gentler pace, visit Otternes farm for pancakes or relax in the hot tub and sauna.

    Accommodation: 29/2 Aurland (3 nights)

  3. Days 6-8: Bergen & Hordaland

After embracing the lifestyle at 29/2 your final destination takes you just over two and a half hours by car to Bergen, a charming seaside city that can easily be explored on foot, and notable spots include the fish market, the funicular Fløibanen and historic Bryggen. From here there are a number of day hikes, you may choose to hike up to Mount Ulriken enjoy the spectacular views out to the ocean. Otherwise you can enjoy a slower place and explore the many shops and restaurants here.

    Accommodation: Opus XVI (2 nights)
