Average time to visit

Stockholm is a year round destination but is at its best in spring, summer and December. From May to September temperatures are warm, early twenties but in the height of summer can reach up to 30 degrees and the sun doesn't set until around 10:30pm, rising at around 3:00am so you can really pack a lot in! During the winter temperatures do get cold but it is a great place to go for a pre-Christmas getaway.

Itinerary

Combine Stockholm with an adventure into the wilds of Sweden which your children will simply adore. Stay in rustic log cabins, pick berries in the forest and spot moose before returning to an exclusive luxury camp on a private island to put your feet up.

This itinerary has been designed around both parents and children, blending some wild adventure, and some lovely accommodation to fall back on in Stockholm before and afterwards. Begin at Ett Hem, a remarkable boutique hotel that gives you a superb base from which to explore the city. We can include a range of experiences from offering an expert guide to explore the city, to taking a helicopter over the archipelago.

We have included a large family car throughout your stay, and it is an easy 1.5 hour drive inland to begin the real adventure in the forest at Kolarbyn Eco-lodge. On arrival your guide will show you to your log cabins and around the camp, explain what forest treats you should pick for your supper and set you to work chopping wood for your fires. In the evening you'll have a well-earned supper (hand-picked and cooked by you!) before setting off on your moose safari. After a long sleep in your toasty cabins you'll begin the next day's hunt for delicious berries to add to your pancakes for breakfast which will fill you with energy for an activity filled day. Fish for your lunch, go on a guided wildlife hike and learn about the forest eco-system, work up a sweat in the floating sauna before a refreshing swim in the lake and then perfect the art of wood chopping. Kolarbyn is exceptionally simple - you really need to find your inner adventurer, but your children will love it. In the evening set out on the peaceful beaver safari on the calm lake, and watch them in their natural habitat before heading back for more well-earned homemade culinary delights.

Return back to Stockholm and this time head to your own private island for a few days of glamping in style. Spend days sea-kayaking, fishing, sailing or walking around the island or just look out over the amazing views from the wood-fired hot tub.

It is one of Scott Dunn's more unique family itineraries, and of course it is not for everyone - but in terms of the experience, it is hard to beat.
