The driest seasons are from December to March for the west & south and the Hill Country.  There is an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. The weather doesn’t follow strict rules, though – it often seems to be raining where it should be sunny & sunny where it should be raining.

Itinerary

This itinerary provides a brilliant journey through southern Sri Lanka. Starting in Colombo you’ll have time explore the capital, visiting some fantastic boutiques, before heading off into the Hill country and then down Yala National Park and the Southern Coast to end the adventure.

  1. Days 1-2: Colombo

    On arrival in Sri Lanka, you’ll have one night in Colombo ensuring that you have time to explore this interesting capital. With a skyline that is changing daily, Colombo is a city on the up and there are plenty of fantastic boutiques and cafes to enjoy here alongside the street markets and beautiful colonial architecture.

    Accommodation: Galle Face Hotel (1 night)

  2. Days 2-4: Hatton

    To make the most of your time, from Colombo we have included a flight to the Hill Country taking just 45 minutes in comparison the six-hour car transfer. We have included two nights in the Hill Country, allowing you to explore this beautiful region. Get amongst the tea pickers and get a glimpse of local life, take a guided walk and go cycling to explore the surrounding countryside.

    Accommodation: Mandira Bungalows (2 nights)

  3. Days 4-6: Yala National Park

    Then you’ll drive down to the south coast, taking just over six hours and where you’ll have your next two nights. Located close to Yala National Park, we have included a morning and late afternoon game drive on your full day here so that you can enjoy Sri Lanka’s most famous national park. Hugely rich in wildlife, spotting elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles and monkeys are regular occurrences and if you are lucky you may even see a leopard during your time here.  

    Accommodation: Cinnamon Wild Yala (2 nights)

  4. Days 6-8: Tangalle

    The final stop on your adventure will be Tangalle. Again your private chauffeur will transfer you, with a drive time of just over three hours.  Offering some of the best beaches in Sri Lanka there will be plenty for you to do here from exploring the surrounding coastlines and beautiful surrounding sleepy villages. Tangalle itself has a lovely old word charm and is definitely worth exploring itself.  lovely to explore on its own.

    Colonial Colombo by Vintage Car is a fabulous way to explore this evolving city as the sun sets. Cruise around in your chauffeur driven vintage car and retrace Colombo's colonial past.

  • Early Morning Visit to Kudawella Fishing Harbour

    Get up early (leave around 7am) to go to Kudawella Fishing Harbour. Take a walk around the small harbor packed full of fishermen selling their catch.

  • Explore the Kapu Ela River by boat & Cycle through Rural Galle

    Enjoy a scenic and immersive tour through the beautiful countryside surrounding Galle. Your journey will take you down the Kapu Ela River by boat and then by bike across the paddies, ending with a traditional Sri Lankan meal and a lesson in hopper making.

  • Galle Cooking Experience - Food for the Soul

    During your time in Sri Lanka you are sure to dine on some soul-stirring dishes, including the traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry. Food lovers will love this cooking experience, from the vibrant market of Galle to cooking in a local village.

  • Galle Fort Tour with a Local Host

    Galle’s main attraction is the 17th century Dutch Fort. Much of the old Fort and the township still remain, within its well-preserved bastions including its public buildings, churches, the famous lighthouse and a maze of narrow cobbled streets.

  • Guided Tour of Kandy: Gods, Kings & Men

    Today head to the center of Kandy, once known as the Kingdom of Kandy. Take some time to visit the famous UNESCO protected Temple of the Tooth. Next wander around the colorful market followed by some tea at the historic Queen's Hotel.

  • Kanneliya Rainforest Trek

    One of Sri Lanka's hidden secrets, Kanneliya Rainforest Reserve is an enchanting forest reserve which is home to some incredible wildlife. Within the thick canopy, explore this wild and undisturbed scenery, accompanied by your wildlife tracker.

  • Shared Afternoon Safari - Yala National Park

    Enjoy a evening safari in Yala National Park. Yala is a must for anyone wanting to spot the elusive leopard, and with over 250sqkm / 96sqm of land to explore, you will likely have some luck in spotting not only leopard, but sloth bear and elephants.

  • Sigiriya Rock

    The Sigiriya rock rises majestically from the jungle floor. It is famous for its ‘mirror wall’, so called because of its highly polished surface. Half-way up there are galleries with frescoes in brilliant tempera. Sigirya dates from the 5th century AD.

  • Trek the Knuckles Mountain Range

    Explore the Knuckles Mountain Range on this full day trek. A local tracker will guide you through the Knuckles Forest Reserve, hiking the Corbett’s Gap Viewpoint track.
