Description

Explore Southern Australia’s extraordinary scenery with this itinerary that takes you on a journey to awe-inspiring locations. Marvel at the diversity of the landscapes and take in incredible sights, whilst staying in Luxury Lodges off the beaten track.

Begin your journey in Sydney, with a stay at the uniquely positioned and luxurious Park Hyatt. Set right on the water’s edge in the historic Rocks area of the city, with far reaching views of the Opera House and Circular Quay, the Park Hyatt is the perfect place to base yourself whilst exploring this cosmopolitan, harbor-side city. Take in a performance at the Opera House, a yacht out on the harbor, visit the lush botanical gardens or explore the many markets that hide down quaint side streets.

After a relaxing stay in Sydney, continue on to the dramatic Blue Mountains, just a few hours drive from Sydney. The Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is a luxury conservation-based resort set within its own private wildlife reserve where guests can enjoy absolute luxury, tranquillity and connection with nature. Spread out at the foot of towering sandstone cliffs, the homestead-style resort is perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area of the Wolgan Valley through a range of nature based activities including four wheel drives, guided Aboriginal interpretive tours, nature walks, wildlife spotting and horse riding.

You will then travel to Lord Howe Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the last true paradises on earth. Lord Howe Island is just two hours by air from Sydney and its diverse collection of scarce flora, fauna and prolific marine life make this is a nature lover’s dream. With its unspoiled beaches and lack of development or pollution, this really is a rare gem of a destination. The boutique Capella Lodge perches above spectacular Lover’s Bay with stunning lagoon and mountain views. The spacious suites are superbly appointed, feeling like your own private beach house, and floor to ceiling windows afford panoramic views of subtropical forests, towering twin peaks and the jewel colored reef.

Following your time on the island paradise of Lord Howe, journey to the wide expanses of the outback to experience some Wild Bush Luxury on Arkaba. Set amidst the Flinders Ranges, Arkaba is a five bedroom 1850’s homestead offering a select few guests a taste of classic Australian country hospitality in comfort and style. Explore the spectacular scenery with a picturesque flight over the station, spend a day with an indigenous guide learning about the ancient Aboriginal culture of the area or simply marvel at the myriad of local wildlife, including Red and Gray Kangaroos, Rock Wallabies, Emus and many different species of birds.

From the red earth and gum trees of the outback, travel to Kangaroo Island for the final element to your spectacular adventure, just 15 km off the coast of South Australia. Kangaroo Island boasts outstanding natural beauty and its relative isolation has ensured an abundance of wildlife in a stunning and protected natural environment. Explore the island’s natural wonders from the indulgent surroundings of Southern Ocean Lodge. Sitting atop a secluded cliff on a rugged stretch of coast, the Lodge commands panoramic views of the wild Southern Ocean and Kangaroo Island’s sugar-white beaches. The intimate and sophisticated feel will provide a sanctuary of refined comfort after days spent exploring the natural bushland and spectacular coastline.

Location & Directions

Sydney, Wolgan Valley, Lord Howe Island, Flinders Ranges & Kangaroo Island

Park Hyatt Sydney is ideally situated in the historic Rocks district, in the spectacular Sydney Harbor with an uninterrupted view of the iconic Sydney Opera House. Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa is 190 kilometers, or a 3-hour drive from Sydney in New South Wales. The surrounding Blue Mountain townships are all close-at-hand. The Wolgan Valley is approximately 26 kilometers long, the Resort & Spa is located at the southern end of the Valley, at the foot of Mount Wolgan and Donkey Mountain. From there to Lord Howe Island and Capella Lodge, in the South Pacific Ocean just 700km northeast of Sydney. Then to the Arkaba Station, situated on the southern edge of Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges National Park. The final destination is Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, which sits a mere 15km from the shores of mainland South Australia, the Lodge is located at Hanson Bay on the Island's south-west coast.

When to go

In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June. Lord Howe is good to visit year round as the sea temperature rarely drops below 19 degrees Celsius. Warmest weather is mostly between November and May.
