Year round destination, although November to April are the best months for sunshine. The ‘Green’ season, from May to October, is a good time to visit: it’s sunny in the mornings with rain in the afternoons. The quietest period is April to early June. The rain can be particularly strong in September and October.
Rafting is possible all year round, though the river might be slightly colder during the green season.
This incredible trip showcases the very best of Costa Rica from verdant coffee plantations, volcanoes, wildlife rich jungles and adrenalin fuelled activities to effortlessly chic properties that make for a truly memorable stay.
Arrive in San Jose and head out into the countryside and Costa Rica’s lush Central Valley, where you’ll wake each day to birdsong and find that life goes by at a slower pace. Spend a day surrounded by miles of nature trails and coffee plantations. Enjoy a coffee tour or simply relax by the pool and soak up the sweeping views before the real adventure begins.
From the Central Valley head north to the iconic Arenal Volcano. Arenal is a great base for all kinds of adventure activities, from canopy walks, to horse riding, white-water rafting and trekking. We’ve included a thrilling zip-line through the canopy, which many will argue is a must in Arenal. This geo-thermal area is also famous for its natural hot springs – the perfect place to ease tired muscles after a day’s activity!
After exploring Arenal, transfer back to San Jose where you’ll catch a short flight to Puerto Jimenez. From here continue on to the Golfo Dulce for a stay at the fabulous Playa Cativo Lodge. Playa Cativo is secluded, surrounded by jungle and offers spectacular views out to the water from the comfort of luxurious rooms. You have the freedom to explore the self-guided trails that surround this remote lodge at your own pace as well as complimentary use of the kayaks, stand up paddle boards and snorkelling gear so as to explore the bay and become acquainted with resident spotted dolphins! To help you maximise your time in this gorgeous corner of the world, we’ve included a snorkelling trip in the Golfo Dulce and also a dolphin and whale watching excursion.
Finish in the lap of luxury at the wonderful Kura Design Villas, a hideaway with breathtaking high-design villas nestled into the hillside with sweeping views over the jungle to the Pacific Ocean. Kura is the perfect place to indulge your senses and end your honeymoon on a real high. If you’re not relaxing in a hammock, taking a dip in the infinity pool or relaxing at the spa, the nearby off-the-beaten track beaches are great to explore a short drive away as well as surrounding trails in the rainforest. In season guests can also see whales migrating up the coast.
The Pacuare River offers some of the finest white water in Latin America, winding through rugged canyons deep inside one of Costa Rica's impressive rainforests. As no roads lead to Pacuare Lodge, rafting in and out is the perfect way to arrive in style!
