Description
This itinerary captures the true wilderness of Botswana combining some wonderful camps in remote and exclusive locations combined with Victoria Falls, considered one of Africa’s most impressive sights.
On arrival in Maun your adventure will begin with a light aircraft flight into the heart of the Okavango Delta. Flying low over the meandering waterways, you are likely to capture your first glimpse of wildlife from the air, with elephant and hippo easily recognisable from above. Your first three nights will be spent at the luxurious Little Vumbura Camp, located on its own island in the northern reaches of the delta. The camp is surrounded by a mix of habitats making this the perfect place to enjoy varied activities including both day and night game drives, guided walks, traditional mokoro rides and boat adventures. The birding is first class and will not disappoint even the most avid bird enthusiast. With a mix of both dry land and waterways, Little Vumbura prides itself on attracting plenty of seasonal wildlife including lion and leopard, as well as frequent sightings of plains game such as red lechwa and sable antelope.
Leaving the Okavango Delta you will be flown north by light aircraft over the Moremi game reserve and into the private Linyanti wildlife reserve bordering the western boundary of Chobe National Park. Located close to the source of the Savute channel, Duma Tau prides itself on its wonderful elephant concentrations which frequent the area especially during the winter months between May and September. The area acts as an elephant corridor and is considered one of the best places to see them as they move north towards permanent water sources. The camp overlooks the Osprey lagoon, one of many lagoons making up the Linyanti wetlands attracting excellent wildlife populations throughout the year. With three nights here guests will have the chance to enjoy day and night game drives, guided nature walks, birding, as well as fishing and motor boat excursions both of which are seasonal and depend on water levels. The combination of wet and dry habitats makes for incredible photographic opportunities as well.
From Duma Tau fly to Botswana’s northern border, Kasane where you will pass through immigration crossing into Zambia and continue your journey by road to the beautiful Tongabezi Lodge for your final four nights. Located on the banks of the Zambezi, Tongabezi is a great place to end your safari with plenty of activities on offer as well as some hidden areas of the lodge to really relax and hide yourselves away whether this be relaxing in the ‘look out’ overlooking the river or simply soaking up the rays beside the pool. Victoria Falls has plenty of activities for everyone from gentle river cruises on the Zambezi, guided tours of the Falls themselves, white water rafting, helicopter flights, micro lighting, picnics on remote islands and fishing adventures to name a few.
This itinerary offers an excellent mix of scenery, changing landscapes and unbeatable wildlife opportunities ideal for a first safari and the safari connoisseur.
