Botswana’s winter is May to October when the weather is hot during the day (not stiflingly hot) and cold at night. Botswana's summer months (November to April) can be hot and humid and there is a chance of rain. Botswana has one rainy season which runs between mid-December and runs through to mid-March.
This classic itinerary takes you across Botswana’s lush Okavango Delta with its palm fringed islands before moving north to the game rich Linyanti wetlands to capture the true wilderness of Botswana offering an excellent mix of scenery, changing landscapes and unbeatable wildlife opportunities. End with a few days relaxing at the mighty Victoria Falls, considered one of Africa’s most impressive sights.
On arrival in Maun your adventure will begin with a light aircraft flight into the heart of the Okavango Delta. Flying low over the meandering waterways, you are likely to capture your first glimpse of wildlife from the air, with elephant and hippo easily recognisable from above. Your first three nights will be spent in a beautiful area of the Delta where a mix of habitats and ecosystems create stunning wildlife and a wealth of activities. Spend your days out on both day and night game drives, guided walks, traditional mokoro rides and boating adventures, all whilst you try and spot some incredible game including lion, leopard and frequent sightings of plains game such as red lechwe. Birding in this area is incredible and will not disappoint even the most avid bird enthusiast. Spend you afternoons lazing around the swimming pool or reading on your veranda and end your days with a sundowner in hand watching the sun set.
The next part of your holiday takes you by light aircraft to a different part of the Okavango Delta. You will spend the next three nights exploring a different part of this stunning area which has beautiful landscapes and offers some brilliant game viewing. A typical day in this area will involve an early start on a morning game drive where your guide will track down some of the wildlife that lives in this area, you should keep your eyes peeled for an impressive variety of birdlife too. On your return to camp there will be a delicious brunch waiting for you before being able to spend the afternoon at your leisure; relax around camp or even next to the swimming pool. In the afternoon you will head out on your afternoon game activity; choose from an afternoon game drive to further explore the reaches of the Delta, or head out on foot on a nature walk or a boat trip for a spot of fishing.
Today you leave the Okavango Delta and your journey continues as you take a flight up to Botswana’s northern border, Kasane where you will pass through immigration crossing into Zambia and continue your journey by road to where you will stay along the banks of the Zambezi River for your final three nights. We think staying out of town offers a more relaxing and picturesque stay. However, you can be as relaxed or active as you like as Victoria Falls is packed with fun activities for everyone from gentle river cruises on the Zambezi, guided tours of the Falls themselves, white water rafting, helicopter flights, micro lighting, picnics on remote islands and fishing adventures to name a few.
One of the best ways to see the big game of Botswana's Okavango Delta is on a game drive with a knowledgeable guide. Explore in open-sided vehicles to maximise your viewing opportunities, this is a truly wildlife rich environment.
