The cosmopolitan city of Cape Town is the first stop on your honeymoon to South Africa and Mauritius. There’s something for everyone here, from active adventures hiking and mountain biking in the mountains that surround the city, to surfing next to African penguins or horse-riding on the beach on the Cape Peninsula.
The Cape has gained a global reputation for its restaurants and dining experiences, and we can reserve you tables at the latest favorite spots that only the locals know about. Staying at the Cape Cadogan puts you in the heart of one of the city's trendiest areas, with cute cafes, bustling restaurants and gin bars on Kloof Street and Bree Street, just a stone's throw away from your hotel.
Drive out to the coast to Birkenhead House which sits on a cliff overlooking Hermanus. Soak up the sea air, enjoy hiking or surfing, pick mussels with the chef or treat yourself to an open-air spa treatment beside the ocean. For several months each year you can watch Southern Right and Humpback whales breaching just meters from the shore on their annual migration.
Drive to the quaint Winelands town of Franschhoek for a few days, exploring wine estates and getting behind the scenes to meet the wine makers, enjoying sumptuous meals in the beautiful surroundings. Your hotel here, Leeu House, is perfectly positioned in Franschhoek to walk out to restaurants in the evening and the perfect base for exploring.
Fly from here out to Mauritius, relaxing in style at the Oberoi where the charming staff will arrange endless treats to make your honeymoon truly special. When to go
The Cape region of South Africa is a year-round destination. The summers are generally warm and dry, while winters tend to be wet and cool, the rains brought on by fierce north westerly gales. Neither season experiences extremes of temperature, thanks to prevailing winds. Summer (Nov-Mar) is the hottest with temperatures 20-40°C. Mid season (Apr, May, Sep, Oct) temps between 10-30°C. Winter (from June- Aug) is the low season with temps 0-25°C.
Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.
The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain. Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.
