Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Colorado mountains have an extreme continental climate with very cold winters and warm summers. Dunton is a year round destination – with June to August being its peak summer months. Colorado averages over 300 days of sunshine a year. June is however the best month weather wise with no rain expected. From the first week of July to the first week in August guests can expect short-sharp afternoon monsoon showers so activities like horseback riding are arranged for the morning.

From September onwards through to the start of November the weather is usually sunny and dry. In November, rain and then snow flurries begin. Riding, biking and fishing give way to winter sports like heli skiing, snow shoeing, dog sledging and skiing in world-renowned Telluride that makes for a romantic winterwonderland.

Amangiri has a desert climate moderated by altitude, with cool to cold winters and warm to hot summers, and plenty of sunshine year-round. Spring and Fall enjoy mild days and cool nights whilst the summer months from June to August provide warm to hot days and pleasant evenings. Winter is marked by crisp days perfect for hiking and activities and cold evenings with cosy fires. Occasional light snow fall makes for stunning photography as does the mirror-like lake.

Itinerary

An intoxicating combination of the most exclusive retreats in the West. This road trip takes you from a restored mining town in the high Colorado Rockies, through Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Lands to the chic desert retreat of Amangiri near Lake Powell.

  1. Days 1-2: Denver

Begin by flying to Denver to enjoy a night in the Rockies’ most vibrant and bustling city. Explore Larimer Square this evening, where the city’s best restaurants, nightlife and boutique stores are located. The Mile High City is the perfect place to unwind after a long flight, before heading for the hills for an old-fashioned Western adventure.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Denver (1 night)

  2. Days 2-5: Colorado

Your first stop will be the peaceful and remote Dunton Hot Springs, an exquisitely restored mining town in the Rocky Mountains near Telluride. With just twelve exclusive hand-hewn log cabins, it’s hard to find a more majestic setting. Dine outlaw-style in The Saloon, where you can swap tall tales and enjoy hand-picked locally sourced and lovingly foraged food, before heading back to your Western cabin to watch the brilliant stars as night falls.

There is spectacular hiking, fly-fishing, horse riding and mountain biking trails in the High Rockies to follow. Head further afield to explore incredible Navajo archaeological sites at Mesa Verde National Park and travel through the Valley of the Gods to the lodge’s own exclusive vineyard. In the winter, enjoy a winter wonderland heli-skiing in search of virgin powder pistes, nordic skiing, ice-skating and snow-shoeing, and whatever the season, after a day's adventure, enjoying the incredible spa or soaking for hours in the natural hot springs with a good book.

Accommodation: Dunton Hot Springs (3 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: Lake Powell

From Dunton, self-drive on scenic byways through the iconic landscapes of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Lands towards Amangiri. If want to arrive in true style, we can arrange a light aircraft flight from Dunton through to Amangiri taking in the landscapes of classic Hollywood John Ford westerns than from the air.

Stay three nights at the otherworldly desert hideaway of Amangiri in southern Utah - the adventure potential here is almost limitless. Take a private speedboat to explore the serene slot canyons on Lake Powell, hike to natural rock arches and mesa summits for panoramic views, or take to the Via Ferrata course to explore the desert. Back at the hotel, you can spend a few hours swimming in the pool that wraps around a giant boulder and seamlessly blends into the stark desert landscape. Further afield, trips can be arranged to Zion and Bryce Canyon to see some of the most iconic landscapes in the American West.

    Accommodation: Amangiri (3 nights)

  4. Days 8-10: Las Vegas

Leaving the wilderness behind, finish your ultimate getaway with two nights in Sin City. No visit to Las Vegas would be complete without a glitzy Vegas show and trying your luck on the tables. To top it all off, we've included a helicopter flight to the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon. Soar over sand-colored peaks and vast slot canyons, as you go from neon to nature, and back again.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas (2 nights)
