To start planning your vacation to Cordée des Alpes
Very much resembling a chalet with its cosy ambiance and alpine themed interiors, La Cordée des Alpes leapt onto Verbier's hotel scene in December 2012 and is one of our favorite places to stay in Verbier.
From the moment you enter this four star haven, you'll immediately be made to feel at home by the highly polished team on hand to welcome you and look after you for the duration of your vacation. The refined atmosphere exudes at every turn in a harmony of old and new, with much of the inspiration coming from hotels from the early 1900s, with an emphasis very much on using traditional wood but without feeling oppressive. At the same time, the hotel manages to maintain an incredibly high standard of modern comfort and facilities, and feels very much like an elegant mountain retreat.
The hotel has a peaceful location in a quieter part of Verbier, yet still very much in the heart of Verbier, close to the restaurants and shops in the resort. A shuttle bus whisks guests to the lifts to start their ski day each morning.
After an exhilarating day on the slopes, a veritable smorgasboard of facilities lie in wait on your return to the hotel. Head straight for the Spa Cinq Mondes to unwind and be pampered, where you can choose to swim in the 15m pool, ease aching limbs in the jacuzzi, Turkish bath or sauna or indulge in a massage. Sporty-types can exercise to their heart's content in the small gym. The spa can also be privatised on request in the evenings.
When it comes to eating, La Cordée Restaurant offers a wonderfully intimate dining experience with cosy booths and the focus very much on Swiss and Italian inspired cuisine. We would highly recommend taking a seat at the bar with a glass of Fendant and watching Chef Marco Bassi and his team at work preparing mouth-watering seasonal dishes in the open plan kitchen.
All of the rooms and suites at the Cordée des Alpes have gorgeous queen size beds with fluffy goose down duvets, dressing area, bathroom, wet room and south facing balcony to make the most of the stunning views. Whilst there are no specific facilities children at the hotel, families are made to feel hugely welcome at the hotel with some good family room options including the apartments. During the vacations, there's a film club in the afternoons. There is a specially designed menu for children in the restaurant.
The hotel has its own on-site restaurant, La Cordée, which is rapidly building up a reputation as one of the top dining spots in Verbier. The Chef and his team have a strong commitment to serving exquisite dishes using fresh, seasonal and locally sourced ingredients and pride themselves on only serving meat from Switzerland.
The Spa Cinq Mondes is a wonderful haven for relaxation with 15m indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Hammam, sauna and gym.
Verbier is certainly up there when it comes to being one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. Hotshot skiers and snowboarders alike can let rip on its legendary ski runs and world famous freeride routes, while beginners and intermediates will find slopes suited to their level - particularly in the resort. The resort itself occupies most of a sunny plateau facing south-west over the Combins and Mont-Blanc ranges.
The “4 Vallées” ski area combines more than 410km of ski runs and 92 ski lifts linking the resorts of Verbier, La Tzoumaz and Bruson, as well as Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon. Runs for all levels criss-cross the amazing surroundings in this winter sports’ paradise with its modern infrastructure and guaranteed snow.
Location & Directions
La Cordée des Alpes has a great central and peaceful location in Verbier. Not far from the Médran lift, it is close to a good selection of bars and restaurants.
When to go
The ski season in Verbier starts in early December and extends through into early May. Whilst the resort itself lies at 1500m, two gondola rides and you are at 2,700m with lots of high altitude skiing which is why there is skiing late into the season. Many of the slopes face West and South meaning that the resort does get plenty of sunshine and snow quality can sometimes suffer late in the season, although snow cover is largely unaffected as there is efficient snow-making equipment in place.
