Description

The Luna Hotel Baglioni is the oldest hotel in Venice, and is perfectly located in the heart of the city, just a few steps from Piazza San Marco, overlooking San Giorgio Island. Many of the sumptuously decorated rooms and suites overlook the Grand Canal.

This historic landmark of the city dates from the 12th century, when it served as a shelter for the Knights Templar on their way to the Crusades. Ornate public areas boast soaring frescoed ceilings, chandeliers of Murano glass, antique furniture, marble staircases, and fabulous works of art.

Breakfast is taken in the Marco Polo ballroom, adorned with beautiful 18th century frescoes by the school of Tiepolo.

Guest rooms and suites, many of which have balconies overlooking the Grand Canal, are splendidly appointed with luxurious furnishings, silk fabrics, magnificent chandeliers, objets d’art, and marble bathrooms. Some suites offer spacious terraces.

Tucked away down a peaceful side street just off the main shopping street, and less than a minute's walk from St Mark's Square, this hotel is the perfect place to base yourself when exploring the city. With the impressive ornate grandeur of Venetian dcor styling every comfortable room, and a beautiful marbled entrance hall, the hotel oozes Venetian charm.

The service is excellent, and the staff both at reception and in the bar and restaurant are extremely helpful and attentive, the concierge is also superb, and full of excellent recommendations and advice.

Good canal views are only available from the top suites, but the other room categories are spacious, and most offer alternative views over the rooftops of Venice and towards St Mark's Square instead.
