Located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma is L'Andana, a stunning Tuscan Villa surrounded by a 500 hectare nature park and a 20-minute drive from the beach. The building which now houses L'Andana was once a Medici villa where Grand Duke Leopold II resided during the summer season.

Hotel L'Andana is spread over two main buildings, the Villa and the Fattoria, separated by a delightfully informal Winter Garden, made of wrought-iron and glass. All the rooms at L'Andana are spacious and elegant with views over the estate and the beautiful rolling Tuscan countryside. There are 33 guest rooms, each with their own unique atmosphere and luxurious bathrooms featuring baths reminiscent of Roman spas. The romantic pool is nestled among cypresses and maritime pines and looks over the stunning Castiglione della Pescaia.

There are many things to keep you entertained at L'Andana, try your hand at Italian cooking in a cookery course or hit a few balls at the hotel's on-site driving range.

La Villa restaurant exudes intimacy and tradition with an open informal kitchen and fantastic veranda with views over the grounds. Wine and olive oil are produced on the estate and served in the restaurant which is traditional Tuscan cuisine and excellent seafood. Every morning, the cast iron ovens turn out freshly baked donuts, orange flower brioches and currant buns for a delicious breakfast. The lunch and dinner menu changes with the seasons to ensure that only the freshest local produce is used. Choose your dish and a world class chef will cook it in front of you, for an amazing culinary experience. La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini is run by renowned Chef Enrico Bartolini who was awarded 2 Michelin stars for his restaurant Mudec in Milan.

Tenuta La Badiola is an ideal place from which to explore the Maremma region by bicycle or on horseback, alternatively there are magnificent walks through the famous National Park. The coastline of Castiglione della Pescaia on the Tyrrhenian Sea is only a short drive from the hotel and provides a variety of options for sea lovers such as sailing and excursions to the neighboring islands of Elba, Giglio and Giannutri. It is also perfectly situated to explore art in the nearby cities of Grosseto, Florence and Siena.


L'Andana offers 20 superior and deluxe rooms tastefully decorated with delightful views of surrounding countryside and beautiful stone fireplace built in fine Tuscan style. The 13 luxurious suites each have a unique atmosphere. The bathrooms feature elegant bathtubs with magnificent views or spacious mosaic bath-showers reminiscent of Roman spas. All rooms have an LCD TV, safe, WiFi and CD and DVD Players.

There are two different buildings that make up L'Andana, La Villa and La Fattoria, both of which are beautiful but do vary slightly on the decor although they both manage to capture the traditional Italian style.

Junior Suites

The Junior Suite comes with a classic fireplace and a spacious dressing room which leads to the bathroom. The suite also offers a stunning view of the Vineyards and Olive Groves.

Deluxe rooms

The Deluxe rooms have a beautiful Tuscan interior with the pastel colors call complimenting each other.

The Deluxe rooms also have a romantic stone fireplace and a stunning view of the Tuscan countryside.

Prestige Suites

The Prestige Suites offer spacious living rooms and bedrooms to relax and unwind in. With chic furniture and a beautiful stone fireplace to add to the romantic atmosphere.

The views from the suites are also breathtaking with a patchwork of vineyards, olive groves and the stunning Mediterranean sea.

Superior Rooms

The Superior Rooms offer a comfortable but elegant room to stay in.

Some of the rooms overlook the vineyards and others offer a view of the Green olive groves.

Each room is fully equipped with a bathroom decorated with beautiful pastel shades.

Superior Suites

The Superior Suites feature a stone fireplace and a spacious living room to truly relax in.

The Deluxe suite also overlooks the countryside and the little chapel.

The bedrooms have a traditional Italian style and the dressing room also has a spacious feeling to it.


There is a kids club at Tenuta La Badiola which can be used, while most of the children end up staying at Casa Badiola guests at both properties can use the excellent club.

Inside it is brightly decorated and features games, non-slip carpets, cushions, tables and chairs, all scaled down. Every single detail has been created with their enjoyment in mind. Their creativeness is also stimulated by various activities organized daily just for them, ranging from classic games in the open-air and pony rides to afternoons spent in the art workshop. The Kids’ Club garden has a children’s swimming pool, ping-pong, pinball game and much more besides. Our young guests can also experiment with planting flowers and vegetables in a kid-size garden.


There are two restaurants at L'Andana - La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini and La Villa.

La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini is located in the ancient granary of Grand Duke Leopold II of Lorraine. The rooms inside the old granary have large windows overlooking the Mediterranean vineyards and with kitchen equipment and a wood oven on display, you can observe whilst dinner is prepared for you. There is a fantastic cellar, which is open to guests and with over 150 different labels on display, including red wines belonging to the Moretti family, Petra and Tenuta La Badiola. Its a beautiful restaurant and offers the ideal opportunity to sample traditional cuisine. The restaurant is open only in the evenings.

La Villa restaurant has a cozy, informal kitchen leading to an intimate dining room, with views from the veranda overlooking the park, the chapel and the pool. Delicious Tuscan specialities are served and the menu changes with the season to ensure only the freshest local produce is used. NB: Closed for dinner June to September.


The ESPA at this hotel is just stunning and definitely worth a visit even if the sun is shining. Dr Roberto Dell'Avanzato and the team have a range of treatments to help body, mind and spirit and by using the latest therapies to reduce body fat and tone the skin, including Micro-Needling, Biorevitalization, Photobiomodulation LED, Intraceuticals Oxygen plus all the usual Spa treatments. There is even an indoor pool, so you can enjoy the Tuscan countryside.

The hotel arranges different walks around the area, one of the best is about 3km up to an old castle which will take about 45 minutes and they can arrange a BBQ up at the top.

There are tennis courts, football pitches and there is the driving range. You can hire bicycles and explore the area.

There are cooking courses on offer with the head chef's team.

The Tyrrhenian sea lies just a few minutes away from L'Andana and offers the ideal spot for a boat trip to discover a series of pretty little inlets and bays or the nearby islands, veritable paradises of nature and steeped in history as well. If you prefer to relax for the day at the beach, L'Andana can arrange and reserve an umbrella and two sun beds for you on the beautiful beach at Castiglione della Pescaia and even provide a delicious Enrico Bartolini picnic lunch basket. This can be added as a supplement during your stay at the hotel.

There are also different art exhibitions that take place alongside the winery.

L’Andana is a strategic location for day trips to some of Italy’s most important cities of art, such as Florence (150 km), Siena (80 km) and Arezzo (150 km). Even the capital, Rome, lies only 180 km away. Closer to home and of equal artistic interest are the nearby towns of Castiglione della Pescaia and Grosseto (20 km), the main town in the province.

When to go

May to September are fantastic months to visit, when the weather is generally warm and dry - a typical Mediterranean climate. April and November are cooler and also good times to visit. Castiglion del Bosco is closed January - March.
