Tuscany has many beautiful properties, however, as you drive up the Cypress-lined lanes towards Belmond Castello di Casole looking out over vineyards, orchards of olive trees and rolling countryside dotted with stone farmhouses, you truly feel in a world of your own.
Nestled in the hills not far from the Renaissance cities of Florence, Sienna and San Gimignano, Belmond Castello di Casole is surrounded by 4,200 acres of its own private estate and comprises a mixture of beautiful suites, elegant stone townhouses and restored Farmhouse Villas each with dramatic glass tiled infinity pools.
Belmond Castello di Casole manages to offer a combination of luxury and yet charmingly rustic comfort within the restored Castello and original buildings of the hamlet. The 41 suites and townhouses are all different. The Limonaia Suites and Oliveta Suites are more contemporary in design and the Castello suites, Casa del Prete and Tinaia suites are decorated with a more rustic feel incorporating the beams and stone walls of the ancient hamlet.
The 18 main suites located in the Castello are beautifully appointed with antique touches that reflect the heart and soul of the ancient Castello which is also mirrored in the luxurious two bedroom townhouses. Most suites have stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, and all have complete access to the estate’s services and amenities, including the Essere luxury spa, pools and fitness center, and casual and fine dining options. Some have private terraces and the three bedroom Bargagli Penthouse has its own private balcony terrace.
There are also seven beautiful old farmhouses to rent as villas for the week for those who would like some more space and be slightly more independent. Staying in the villas are a way to enjoy the stunning countryside but still being able to use the great facilities of the five-star hotel. The four or five-bedroom traditional Tuscan homes are equipped with large kitchens as well as spacious outdoor areas and are all tucked away in the countryside dotted around in amongst the hills.
Belmond Castello di Casole offers a choice of dining; you can either sample delicious Tuscan specialties with a twist inspired by Daniele Sera’s brilliant interpretation of whatever is in season at Ristorante Tosca or more simple fare at Pazzia Pizzeria.
Belmond Castello di Casole features 41 luxurious hotel suites in a variety of styles and sizes to accommodate different preferences. The suites have been restored using artifacts and materials found on the estate giving them an authentic feel with their wood-beamed ceilings, stone walls and hand-plastered finishes. All bathrooms include personalized amenities diffusing local Tuscan scents, heated towel racks, separate double showerheads and Italian design freestanding bathtubs.
All suites include custom linens, complimentary WiFi, HDTV with Sky TV including movie packages, iPod docking station, underfloor heating, air-conditioning and complimentary minibar.
Rooms and suites are spread between the original parts of the castle, the old school, the old lemon grove and the original wine storage room. There are also a number of farm houses dotted around the estate. Guests opting for these private residences can choose to use the facilities of the hotel or be independent and cook for themselves. The farmhouses vary from 3-5 bedrooms and all have private pools.
Children of all ages are welcome to come and stay at Belmond Castello di Casole. However, there are no specific facilities available for them. The spacious suites can have an extra cot or bed added to accommodate families more easily. Babysitting can be arranged upon request.
At Ristorante Tosca you can dine inside among the restored stone walls and custom Murano glass chandeliers, or head out to the dining terrace for an al fresco meal overlooking dramatic vineyards and valleys. The estate’s expert sommelier advises on every course, making for memorable food and wine pairings. The Executive chef focuses on the local produce from the Hotel’s gardens and fresh game and seafood in season with endless fresh bread and estate-grown extra virgin olive oil. For a more informal meal there is Pazzia Pizzeria serving delicious pasta and pizzas. With a focus on great flavors, and simple cooking techniques, Pazzia Pizzeria – meaning Madness in Italian - embodies all that is great about traditional Italian cooking. The interior sets the stage with exposed brick, a Carrara marble counter, and antique fixtures in a relaxed atmosphere with seating for 30 people. The pizzeria features an espresso bar, gelateria and wood-burning oven, and serves of casual Tuscan cuisine including classic pizzas and a few that may surprise you, Panini and delicious gelato, all created with local ingredients. Finally relax with a drink in their Bar Visconti, names after the legendary filmmaker who once lived at the Castello. With stunning views, especially at sunset of Casole d’Elsa the bar and outside loggia are the perfect place to unwind with a glass of the estate’s wine or a cocktail.
Lounge beside their pool overlooking the rolling hills or if you feel like something more energetic the hotel can organize a myriad of activities for both adults and children. They will plan vineyard and bike tours, day hikes, long walks and horseback rides through the hillsides as well as specialist kid’s activities and cultural excursions to local towns and cities.

When to go
The Mediterranean climate makes Tuscany a year round destination. It is important to remember that the main tourism season stretches from mid-April to the end of September with July and August being peak months. The best time to visit Tuscany is in the quieter part of the season, from April to June and from September to October when weather is usually good, prices lower and there are "fewer" tourists. Many have also discovered the advantages of visiting during the "low season" (winter and early spring) as rates are lower and the reduced number of tourists is visible.
