Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Mediterranean climate makes Tuscany a year round destination. It is important to remember that the main tourism season stretches from mid-April to the end of September with July and August being peak months. The best time to visit Tuscany is in the quieter part of the season, from April to June and from September to October when weather is usually good, prices lower and there are "fewer" tourists. Many have also discovered the advantages of visiting during the "low season" (winter and early spring) as rates are lower and the reduced number of tourists is visible.

Description

Belmond Castello di Casole commands a prominent hilltop position, offering magical views of the Tuscan countryside, combining Old World Tuscan charm with modern boutique luxury, elegance and sophistication.

Tuscany has many beautiful properties, however, as you drive up the Cypress-lined lanes towards Belmond Castello di Casole looking out over vineyards, orchards of olive trees and rolling countryside dotted with stone farmhouses, you truly feel in a world of your own.

Nestled in the hills not far from the Renaissance cities of Florence, Sienna and San Gimignano, Belmond Castello di Casole is surrounded by 4,200 acres of its own private estate and comprises a mixture of beautiful suites, elegant stone townhouses and restored Farmhouse Villas each with dramatic glass tiled infinity pools.

Belmond Castello di Casole manages to offer a combination of luxury and yet charmingly rustic comfort within the restored Castello and original buildings of the hamlet. The 39 suites and townhouses are all different. The Limonaia Suites and Oliveta Suites are more contemporary in design and the Castello suites, Casa del Prete and Tinaia suites are decorated with a more rustic feel incorporating the beams and stone walls of the ancient hamlet.

The 16 main suites located in the Castello are beautifully appointed with antique touches that reflect the heart and soul of the ancient Castello which is also mirrored in the luxurious two bedroom townhouses. Most suites have stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, and all have complete access to the estate’s services and amenities, including the Essere luxury spa, pools and fitness center, and casual and fine dining options. Some have private terraces and the three bedroom Bargagli Penthouse has its own private balcony terrace.

There are also seven beautiful old farmhouses to rent as villas for the week for those who would like some more space and be slightly more independent. Staying in the villas are a way to enjoy the stunning countryside but still being able to use the great facilities of the five-star hotel. The four or five-bedroom traditional Tuscan homes are equipped with large kitchens as well as spacious outdoor areas and are all tucked away in the countryside dotted around in amongst the hills.

Belmond Castello di Casole offers a choice of dining; you can either sample delicious Tuscan specialties with a twist inspired by Daniele Sera’s brilliant interpretation of whatever is in season at Ristorante Tosca or more simple fare at Pazzia Pizzeria.

Castello di Casole sits on one of the largest estates in Italy, with 4,200 acres of greenery. The grounds feature natural wooded forests and hiking trails right from your doorstep. The divine infinity pool sits directly adjacent to a real Roman amphitheater as the hotel keeps its traditional feel yet comfort and luxury are of the highest importance. The hotel looks out on the endless rolling hills of Tuscany and in the distance the medieval hilltop town of Casole dElsa. The sprawling estate provides a host of activities including cooking classes at the hotels taverna Piazza, sunrise yoga, biking, hiking, truffle hunting, horseback riding and wine tastings to name a few.

Driving up the long gravel path, you truly cannot be prepared for what waits for you. Castello di Casole is such a special place. No matter where you look the views are spectacular. The greenest trees, rolling hills and vast open spaces have to be seen to be believed.

There is such a great variety of rooms from spacious suites, villas with kitchens and Jacuzzis to the grand farm houses which are dotted around the acres of land. Their restaurant selection has something for everyone - there is a traditional pizzeria with delicious gelato, as well as the fine dining restaurant with stunning dishes and perfect wine pairings.

They have successfully kept the authenticity of this casole with fantastic service and magical views, I am desperate to go back!

Tuscany's latest five-star is west of Siena, on a little hill surrounded by 4,200 acres of vines, olives and woodland. The centerpiece of the estate (once owned by Luchino Visconti) is its 10th-century castle, now a 41-suite hotel. Colorado-based Timbers Resorts (the Dancing Bear, Aspen) has spent seven years and 90 million on restoration and refurbishment. The result is a luxe-rustic take on the Tuscan idyll, with beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. Sitting rooms with log fires and the handsome Bar Visconti provide refuge in cool weather; the terraces and infinity pool are wonderful in summer. Rooms in the villa are quietly elegant; others are more rustic, and some have private gardens. Chef Daniele Sera's reworking of traditional Tuscan food (gnocchi with coffee-scented veal cheek; salty pine-nut toffee) is showcased at Ristorante Tosca. There's plenty to do (spa treatments, pizza-making classes, boar hunting, mountain-biking) and Florence and Siena are within easy reach.

Castello di Casole was one of my favorite properties we visited in Tuscany, having opened in July 2013 the hotel is in fantastic condition and has the modern conveniences at your finger tips. There are various different accommodation types suiting all requirements from two and three bedroom villas located in the estate grounds to suites in the main building. The spa is due to open in July 2013, which if the rest of the property is to go by wont be a disappointment!

This is a favorite of mine, this hotel sprouted up in the Tuscan hills last summer and has gone from strength to strength since. They are opening their spa this summer and the whole resort has become 5* quality.

There are a number of different choices when it comes to the room you stay in, I would recommend one of the old school rooms to stay in which has stunning views and are very large for families.
