Insider's View

The Ouzerie Beach Restaurant is a must if you want to try the local cuisine.

Each hotel runs a boat trip from the Marina on specific days that takes you around the local coastline. This is a fantastic way to take in the stunning local scenery

The complimentary Babe Watch program is amazing for parents who would like 30 minutes to relax knowing that the children are being cared for.

The restaurants usually open around 6pm. However if you would like your children to eat earlier, it is possible to pre-order your chosen dish at any restaurant at any time. This is a really good child friendly touch.

If the children are tiring of their pushchairs why not hire them a trike or bike from the hire shop at the Sani Beach Resort. They offer a large selection for all different ages and capabilities.

For children under the age of 16, entrance to the heated spa pool at the Sani Beach Resort is restricted to splash hours only (8am - 2pm) as long as they are supervised by an adult.

The “Creperie” at the Marina is a paradise for snackers. One mouthful and you’ll be hooked!

There's plenty for nature lovers at Sani. Explore the paths through the Sani forest, watch the birds at the wetland and then enjoy a picnic on the beach by the sand dunes.

The children will love the floating water park in the sea located close to the Sani Beach Hotel.

The marina is a great place to visit in the evenings with plenty of different choices for dinner and drinks

There is a fun bike shop near the Beach Hotel where children can hire scooters for the day - a change from bikes! Pushchairs/buggies can also be hired if you decide not to take your own.

Description

Sani Resort is one of Greece's most established family friendly destinations. Located in Halkidiki, Sani Beach is the original, main hotel located at the far end of a beautiful white sandy beach. It's ideal for families wanting a busier resort atmosphere.

Sani Resort is a family owned 1000 acre private ecological reserve with pine forests, bird sanctuaries, lakes and olive groves, all surrounding the marina and five individual hotels - Sani Dunes, Sani Beach, Porto Sani, Sani Asterias and Sani Club. Lush, landscaped gardens with Mediterranean scents on this unspoiled peninsular separate the hotels, whilst the Aegean Sea laps gently along the seven mile sandy beach.

Sani Beach is the largest of the five hotels at Sani Resort and enjoys one of the best locations right beside the beach. Close too, are the resort tennis courts, watersports center and the children's club, with the marina being just a short walk away. The hotel underwent a recent renovation and the addition of one and two bedroom suites, plus a new wing of family suites means the hotel is perfect for families wanting to experience Sani Resort, but don't have the budget for the more exclusive and boutique hotel options available at Sani Asterias or Sani Dunes. Spacious and comfortable, with floor to ceiling windows and large terraces, they offer guests fabulous views of the Aegean Sea and Sani Bay. A wide choice of child friendly restaurants, a heated infinity pool and life guards on the beach make for the most relaxing family break.

One of the big attractions of Sani Resort is the amount of activities and facilities the resort, as a whole, offers for all ages and interests. A particular highlight is the bustling marina and shopping plaza with its choice of restaurants, lively bars, boutiques and great leisure and sports facilities.

Families of all ages are a firm feature throughout the resort and catered for in a variety of ways. Most restaurants have dedicated children's menus and are well stocked with highchairs and open at family friendly times, whilst a few are exclusively for guests over 12 years. To make a guest's stay as hassle free and relaxing as possible, Sani can arrange some extra touches in the rooms for children. The hotel features it's own crèche and children's club, which takes children from 4 months to 12 years or age or there is a Teen Club is open in peak summer form mid June, July and August.

Walking into the sani beach hotel I was really amazed at how well it had all been done up since the last season. It has been renovated to a very high standard and so now people can enjoy very luxurious surroundings in an amazing setting. The marina is very impressive and is perfect for families looking for large choice if restaurants and great for children just pottering around. It is great if you are looking to be close to a town or something as it is its own little town anyway. All of the food is superb and Sani resort have obviously spent a lot of time investing in the restaurants making sure it keeps its 5* service throughout. The rooms all work very well for families and actually I can understand why so many families return year after year, they have everything they want but ll in one resort without ever having to leave their resort.

A private beach and views of Mount Olympus - what's not to love about the Sani, Halkidiki?

With views over Mount Olympus and the Aegean, the soft white sand and shallow water on Sanis private beach are perfect for tiny tootsies.

The long established Babewatch service, where experienced staff watch children while parents take a break, is available for those wanting to sunbathe in peace. And you neednt ever leave your sunlounger, as Beach Buddies deliver refreshments and snacks on request.

The Ofsted standard childrens clubs are run by UK childcare specialists and offer a range of activities including pool games, face-painting and arts and crafts.

Just over three hours flying time and a 50-minute car transfer is all it takes to get you to Halkidikis poshest hotel. Could Sani Resort be as good as its glowing reviews? On first impressions, absolutely yes! Set in a privately owned ecological reserve with its own yacht marina and four distinctive hotels spread over 7 kms of golden sandy beaches and magnificent pine forests, it quickly became clear why the Sani Resort is so popular.

It's the kind of establishment where things just tick along like clockwork. We were greeted at reception by a team of enthusiastic management whilst in the background porters discreetly handle our bags. The Sani Resort has all the facilities you would expect of a larger hotel - 16 restaurants and almost the same amount of bars, a handful of pools, three spas, three kids clubs, tennis, watersports and a collection of boutiques to name just a few. But despite its size, it feels thoughtful and intimate. You can order a picnic and pedal bicycles; it's possible to cosy up under starry skies to watch a live performance in the open air theater or charter one of the hotel's yachts to secluded coves for romantic beach barbecues a deux is another option. We've found out all of this from the manual in our suite.

I should probably mention from the off that we brought our 16-month-old girl with us. It was her first foray into luxury hotelville since walking and she is capable of making quite a bit of noise. But we didn't have to worry. Throughout our stay she was treated like a rock star, cooed over by waitresses, spoiled with mouth-watering meals and entertained for hours exploring her new surroundings.

We had booked a one bedroom family suite at the Sani Beach hotel. It was the sea view and separate living room to bedroom that sold it to us. There's plenty of space to lounge about in here among the king size dream bed covered in crisp white cotton and roomy sofas. It's pretty minimalist, making good use of natural materials, cream-tiled floors, rattan furniture, tropical shower cabin with an oversized corner bathtub and Anne Semonin goodies. But really our room is all about what's outside: the panoramic sea views from our extensive balcony elicited a squeal of delight from our toddler so shrill that across seas somewhere in Corfu glasses smashed. Looooooook! she yelled excitedly and I agreed its breathtaking, the views stretching for miles across the dazzling ocean.

Sani resort works so well because it is an archipelago of different hotels catering very effectively to different kinds of guests. Facilities are of a high standard and staff impeccably trained across the resort. A lot of thought goes into how the place is run - so it's large enough for variety, but also feels personal. Each beach is serviced by a team of beach buddies offering delicious refreshments and snacks direct to your sun bed and children have not been forgotten either with an array of beach games, toys and inflatables on offer to play with. Also available and very popular is the babewatch beach service where experienced staff will watch your children while parents take a break (the first 30 minutes are free of charge).

One afternoon, while playing tennis, we saw a family pull into the car park. They were English and they booked their vacation with Scott Dunn, the tennis coach said, completely unaware of our secret identities. This was their first visit and they said they were coming back in August. They just loved the freedom to do what they wanted. They could eat in a different restaurant every night, they could order room service and their kids could run around. It was a real vacation for them all!

Evenings are as glorious as the days here. The only tough decision is which restaurant to eat at and will they have availability for us. Our trusted babysitter organized through the Melissa Crche is wonderful. She was a local girl but spoke very good English and promptly arrived at 7.30pm every night enabling us to have some adult time (at 10 per hour it's worth every penny), however, children are welcome in the majority of restaurants come day or night. It was our last night and we decided to go all out and dine at the exclusive Japanese Sea You Up Restaurant overlooking the marina. Cocktails at the sleek bar with ambient music got us started as we watched boats threaded with lights make their way across the waves. Soon we were summoned, along with an expectant party of guests. Tables were laid out, candles were lit, and a cavalry of waiters were dispatched to tend to us. The meal was so divine. Warm scallop sashimi with ginger, chives and sesame, robata grilled rib eye steak with carrot harissa and sweet chilli jam and chocolate fondant with shichimi caramel and coconut ice cream accompanied by an exciting wine list.

We returned to our room and from our balcony were treated to the spectacle of a rare electric storm. We looked at each other and at the same time said we'd better get saving for next year.
