Not more than 20 minutes from Heraklion, Amirandes is a great choice for a Cretan beach vacation with plenty around to explore if you want more than just a fly and flop break. From the moment you arrive at Amirandes you know you will be well looked after, and there are so many different room types and villas to choose from with many boasting their own pools too. You are spoiled for choice!
The nine restaurants and bars are all fantastic too, I couldnt help but be impressed with everything I tried from the huge selection at breakfast, to the choice at lunch and mouth-watering a la carte dinner at Minotaur where you are surrounded by a fabulous collection of genuine Picasso ceramics! With both the impressive Olympic length main saltwater pool and the private beach you have plenty of choice of where to relax during the day, and the fabulous childrens pool has a good covering too to shade kids from the heat of the sun.
Its worth a trip to the Greco Farm about an hour up the coast, where you can enjoy a feast of a lunch after working up your appetite doing a little tour of the vineyard, visiting some farm animals and trying your hand at preparing some fresh artichokes or pressing some grapes!

We though the hotel was excellent. The rooms were lovely, well appointed and convenient for the facilities whilst not feeling on top of each other. The staff were great - friendly and informal whilst still providing a really high level of service. We thought the quality of the food served in the restaurants was very high and particularly enjoyed the Blue Monkey restaurant where the sushi was exceptional. From a constructive criticism perspective then we would pass on the following: - if we had not gone for a villa class room then we think we would have been slightly disappointed. The standard beach area was pretty crowded and unexceptional for a five star resort - housekeeping in the rooms was friendly and high quality but inconsistent. The master bedroom was great but the second room really pretty basic and lacking in privacy. And the second bathroom was very basic and small.
The kids club was brilliant and both of our children asked to go every day. They provided lots of fun activities and the option to have them take the children to the (free) buffet lunch was particularly appreciated. The staff were great. I was surprised that there was no signing in/out process and it made me slightly concerned that they did not adequately keep track of who was picking up the children.

A beautifully opulent property Amirandes certainly has the feel of a luxury hotel right from the get go. Public areas including the stunning main pool area mix contemporary design with traditional Greek architecture, with almost all parts of the hotel benefiting from stunning ocean views. A variety of room categories make the hotel perfect for families and couples alike, however the interconnecting villas make the property ideal for special occasions or large family gatherings!

Amirandes has a number of different rooms making it a great choice for couples and families alike. For a special occasion book out a couple of villas, some of which can be inter-connecting. The nearest town is Gouves, here you will find local tavernas and bars and all in a 15 minute walk along the beach path.

Im reviewing this resort with my mum hat on (always!) and I wasnt disappointed. Amirandes have families well covered, from the carefully designed and nourishing Tasty Corner kids food (baby food is also in stock) to the range of fun activities to keep the kids entertained. Grecoland, the kids club and playground is a great addition to pool-dwelling for little ones and parents can either drop-off with the kindergarten-qualified staff (over twos) or stay and play. I love that Amirandes has its own farm supplying food to the restaurants and you can even visit and see the animals, which is another lovely family outing. Another thing that will score points with parents pushing buggies is the predominantly flat layout with minimal steps. The lovely sandy beach is easily accessible.
Kids aside, this resort is stunning in its elegance and style. The main pool area is chic and utterly instagrammable. The tranquil setting is maintained even at full capacity due to the large number of rooms having their own pools, the main areas never feel too busy. The variety of room, suite and villa configurations mean they have something to suit everyone and whilst 10 years old in 2017 (meaning some of the finishes are just starting to tire a little) they are well maintained. The food and drink quality and hospitality really special, a highlight being Xasteria, the open-air Cretan restaurant where you can dine a la carte, under the stars.

The architecture at Amirandes is some of the most stunning Ive seen as you walk in through the huge wooden doors to the main lobby, you can hear the water tumbling down a large rock feature behind you and turn to see the mountains behind. Enter the hotel and a tranquil decorative pool (which twinkles with little lights at night) lies ahead and leads your eye towards the sea directly ahead.
There is a variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and kids are well catered for with a playground, a lovely sheltered toddler pool and very patient and friendly restaurant staff who are prepared to cater to any whim. This is a flat resort and its a great pleasure just to potter around here. You will be spoiled for choice trying to decide whether to relax by the beautiful Olympic sized swimming pool or go on the fine sandy beach. If you are feeling active, theres a separate watersports beach area offering lots of different activities for you to try. There is a good selection of fabulous restaurants and all the communal areas really are beautifully designed.

It seems on approaching Amirandes, that they have thought of everything! Amazing entrance, impressive vista from the main lobby and reception and the warm and generous hospitality you would expect from a Grecotel Resorts hotel. The choice of accommodation seems endless, albeit possibly confusing in some instances, especially for the family-friendly units. Its crucial you book the right one if you want pool privacy as not all options offer this. There's a great selection of restaurants to choose from including the open-aired Xasteria, literally translated to mean open-air, star-filled and the Petrino, which offers a delicious menu for lunch. The Lago di Candia evening restaurant has a floating desk, which appears and disappears when required, so that you can seemingly dine on-the-water. Perfect for that special occasion.
Families with children will love Amirandes. Its location on the sandy beach with the watersports facilities is great for older children, plus it has a large pool and plenty of sunbeds. For younger children, there is also Grecoland, which is Amirandes complimentary kids club for 3-12 years old. The outdoor area is fully equipped with everything you need to keep younger children entertained and all the restaurants provide kids menu's so everyone can enjoy some fine dining.

With stunning views across the Aegean, Amirandes has some great restaurants. Their Taverna in ranked in the top 34 in Greece for traditional Greek food. The pool area is wonderful offering some lovely sun beds under the pergola. Entertainment for the children is in their amphitheater, with shows three times a week including a mini disco for the little ones. They offer their own basic childcare facilities for children aged three and older. A spa, gym and a wide range of accommodation types makes it a perfect family setting.

Set in an idyllic location right on the seafront, the Amirandes Hotel has an enormous amount of space on the beach and in the gardens, without feeling overwhelmingly large. The view once you walk in the front door offers a real WOW factor impact from the beginning of your stay. It offers you the 5* service you can expect from a Grecotel with a great choice of restaurants including their Cretan restaurant, ranked one of the top Greek restaurants throughout Greece.
The Childrens Club is complimentary so would work well for a bit of supervision as and when it suits you, but the pool and grounds are large enough for the children to run around and be entertained. When it comes to room types, I would certainly opt for a seaview room as the view is certainly worth the extra money, but also the suites and villas offer a lot more space, a little more luxury and the unique 'Pillow Menu' to guarantee you a good night's sleep.

Before even stepping through the front door of Amirandes, the entrance sets the scene completely. The calming, fresh dcor runs through the resort and out onto the white sandy beach, leaving a feeling of incredible tranquillity. The accommodation is all very well thought out, with a good balance of practicality and luxury particularly in the villas which also offer that extra bit of privacy, and exclusive touches such as private pools and dedicated shaded loungers on the beach. The range of restaurants provide opportunity for fantastic dining experiences, particularly if you manage to book a table on the floating platform of Lago di Candia, the lagoon restaurant. Look out for the brightly colored animals surrounding the villas; a fun touch for the children.

A wonderful large resort with some amazing facilities right on the beach front. The beach front villas are in an amazing location and perfect for families. The Olympic sized swimming pool is impressive and there are lots of different dining options available.
