Villa Épure enjoys a location that will suit everyone. A ten minute walk into the historic medieval walled market town of Vence, it's also not far from the nearest beaches, the vibrant towns of Antibes and Nice, and the spectacular variety of attractions that the South of France offers. From the mighty Gorges du Verdon to the perfumeries of Grasse, or from the marinas full of super yachts to the lavender fields and vineyards in the hills, it’s all on the doorstep. Vence, with its narrow cobbled streets, little squares dotted with cafés and restaurants, shops, ancient buildings and Matisse stained glass windows in the chapel, is a wonderful base for a week or two in Provence. There are frequent festivals in the town, with the most well-known being the Nuits du Sud from early July to early August, which is not to be missed.

Villa Épure is a modern, bright and airy town house with large floor to ceiling windows making the most of the views of the old town. Far from being a typical Provencal villa, its contemporary architecture is impressive, especially at night when it's all lit up. Predominantly white, with bold design touches and vibrant panels of color throughout, it's reminiscent of some of the celebrated artists synonymous with the town.

The ground floor of the villa is open plan with a double height atrium and glass doors running the entire length leading to the pool and garden, making the most of the magnificent vista. The air conditioned master bedroom is on this floor with French doors out onto the terrace. Upstairs, there are three further air conditioned bedrooms, a double and two twins with en suite shower rooms, all sharing a separate WC. All bedrooms on the first floor have access to the first floor roof terrace which is off the galleried landing with its huge floor to ceiling windows looking out over Vence.

Épure is ideal for children of all ages. There is an air conditioned playroom/TV room on the first floor, with doors out onto the roof terrace, and is fully equipped with a good variety of toys, games and books to suit different age groups and interests. Specialist baby equipment can also be provided. For older children there's table football and a table tennis table, whilst teenagers have the independence of being able to walk into Vence. This is especially appealing during the Vence Nuits du Sud Festival, where the streets and squares play host to music and entertainment.

The south facing, lawned garden with its fig and olive trees is a delightful place to spend the day. A teak terrace surrounds the villa, and there are plenty of loungers, soft cushions and terrace furniture here and on the roof terrace, for some real relaxation. The saltwater pool has integrated steps and an alarm, making it ideal for younger children. Views from the house and garden are over towards the pretty old town of Vence, with the bell tower in the center dominating the horizon.

Villa Épure is just a stone's throw from some of France’s most beautiful hill top villages, with their ancient buildings, beautiful squares and views of the Mediterranean. Vence itself is full of artisans and is characterized by its groves of olive and orange trees. Once you've wandered through the streets full of galleries and shops, it's the perfect place to relax in one of the many cafés. Quench your thirst at the Fontaine de la Foux, from where extremely pure mineral water has been flowing since medieval times. There’s a daily market on the Place Clémenceau inside the old village where you'll find flowers, fish, honey and all sorts of herbs and spices, and a weekly market at the Place du Grand Jardin. This is an area well-known for its links to famous artists, and the nearby St Paul de Vence is no exception. A hilltop fortified village, filled with galleries and boutiques, it played host to Chagall, Matisse, Picasso and Dufy, to name but a few at the beginning of the last century. The Colombe d'Or is worth visiting for lunch (a reservation will be necessary) to admire some of the original artwork on the walls.

If you'd like to drive to your villa, or extend your vacation and explore France a little further, we can organize an itinerary taking in a selection of hotels along the way. Speak to one of our travel specialists who'd be more than happy to make some suggestions and help plan your trip.

Walking to Vence

The walk to Vence is about a 10 minute walk (approximately 400m) which involves a combination of walking along the road, and a steep path.

As the villa is situated in a residential area, typical noises can be heard from the villa which you would associate to being close to the town. e.g the chimes from the bell town and mopeds buzzing about.

Bell Tower

The bell in the tower in Vence rings every hour and half hour, during the day and night.

Location & Directions

Cote d'Azur, South of France

Villa Epure is a short drive from the historic village of Vence, between Nice and Antibes. The nearest beach is at Cagnes sur Mer, just 10km away and St Paul de Vence is a 10-minute drive away. (The villa does not currently show on Google Maps).

When to go

The typical Mediterranean climate of Provence and the Cote d'Azur has long drawn visitors here. Late Spring brings warm temperatures that can reach nearly 30C by July. Sunshine is abundant, with nearly 12 hours a day in mid-summer. The Mistral can bring a cooler wind in early Spring, but this part of the Riviera is more protected. July is the driest month, and rain showers tend to be infrequent.
